Itchy hands?

I was up for hours last night with both my hands itching like crazy. Dr google says it could be a liver problem and I should talk to the midwife, but she’s on holiday.

I guess it’s probably just heat? Has anyone else had this? It’s so weird that it was basically just my hands. They still itch now but a bit less intensely. The weird thing is it’s symmetrical, both hands itch in the same places. Last night they might have been a bit swollen too.

I think it can be a sign of a liver condition.
I’d call your maternity unit ASAP for some advice.

2 of my friends had this in the last 2 years. One was diagnosed and monitored very closely and baby was delivered at 37 weeks.
It wasn't picked up with the other one until she was quite ill and baby was delivered 6 weeks early, luckily both mum and baby were ok but it was very close to having a different outcome.

Please ring your mid wife now and ask for a blood test!! I had this it was called oc and was dangerous- yours might not be but better to be on the safe side xx

Ok thank you everyone! I’ve spoken to triage and they’ve asked me to go in now for a blood test.

I just never know when I’m being paranoid about something or not! I hope it was just the heat but thanks for your advice and I’ll post an update.

Finally back from hospital, and I got most of my results today. Liver function seems to be fine, thankfully. So it was probably just heat rash. I’m waiting for a bile acid test which I won’t have the results for until next week, which might change things, but until then it seems all clear. Thanks for the advice guys! It was so important I got that checked out.

I had itchy hands and had a boy my liver was fine but my hands were so itchy it was horrible just bad eczema

@Bernifal it’s the bile acids you need to check so wait till you get those results, and if you keep itching ask to be retested as it can take a while to show in your blood. I had icp with my daughter x

Echo the thoughts above, if you continue itching, go back and get retested.

Interesting, I happened to have an appointment lined up with a consultant at the hospital that day, and it was her that got in touch with triage and told them to check bile acid as she said they don’t always do it. Thanks so much for the advice everyone and I’ll keep an eye on things.
