How soon to book an appointment?

Hi all,

Can hardly believe I'm asking this. Been having BFPs for the past few days but all faint, so I'm not convinced it's real. Am currently 14dpo. That aside, how soon do you need to book to speak to a midwife? I need to ring the surgery anyway about something else, and am half thinking that, as there's no-one else in the office just now this would be a good time to mention it to them. On the other hand I'm assuming this is far too early and I should wait a month or so.

What do you reckon?

If you speak to the receptionist they will tell you if you need to see a GP for a referral to the midwives or if you need to self refer. It doesn't matter when you see the GP if you need an appointment with them first, can be as early as you like.

You don't get to choose when you see the midwife. Once the referral is done they will contact you at some point a little later to arrange an appointment. I believe in most areas they arrange it for 8+ weeks, in my area they tend not to see ladies until they are 10+ weeks

@TimeIhadaNameChange I rang my GP at 4 weeks because of a bleed and they referred me to midwife who I saw at 8 weeks so its not to early because you may be told to self refer x

I called a couple of days after finding I was pregnant. They told me to self refer to the midwives, which I did. Don’t think it’s ever too early, as you don’t know when you’d need them! 🤷🏼‍♀️

Thanks, @Bambamber and @HJWT - I'll ask for a GP appointment as well when I ring them later.

Everyone is of course different but as soon as I got my BFP I booked a doctors appt and told my doctor I was pregnant. It's up to you but I personally don't see the need to wait for anything.
