I’m nearly 27 weeks pregnant and off to the coast for the weekend. I love mr whippy I have been told different things from different midwives. It won’t b from a van more of a shop what do people think. Am I past the worrying about food stage?!!!

I did & he's a teenager now lol

My husband ate mine after I'd taken one lick and said I can't have it.

After researching it's more to do with the cleanliness of the van, how often machine is cleaned out and when, and whether the van is on a slope as it affects refrigeration

I'm forbidden as he's too scared to take the risk

He ate my ice cream

:(

The ice cream itself is pasteurised but the machines may contain listeria due to dubious hygiene practices. It’s up to you really. The chances are that you’d be fine having one ice cream, once, but there is a risk of food poisoning and so it’s up to you whether you run that risk.

If it's somewhere like Mcdonalds then their machines are more likely to be cleaned properly. I would imagine a shop would take care to clean them out too. Some machines have automatic cleaning cycles to ensure they are safe. NHS doesn't actually advise against it

ParadiseLaundry · 20/06/2019 18:02

I'm pregnant and I'd have one but If you want to be extra safe get it from McDonalds, they clean their machines daily to very high standards apparently.

YesQueen · 20/06/2019 18:04

Yes to McDonald's, no to a van. I won't touch them since my gran nearly died from contracting listeria from a Mr Whippy ice cream van and it was due to the cleanliness

ohdearymemumof3 · 20/06/2019 18:28

I had eaten whippy out of a van nearly every day when he came down my road when i was pregnant in summer 2017, didnt cross my mind that i wasnt allowed too tbh.

Ice cream vans need to meet food hygiene requirements too. Remember all a van will sell is ice-cream and so they are 100 percent more likely to regularly clean their machines than restaurants / shops / macdonalds.
