Elective C Section - help!!!!

Hiya

I'm nearly 38 weeks and still don't have a c section date. The hospital just called and said that the week I need is fully booked and to basically wait until they call me in (with 24 hours notice!)

What on earth do I do? I'm scared they won't call me and will forget!!

Is this standard procedure? Everyone I've spoken to hasn't heard of this before? I'm just worried they are fobbing me off hoping I go into labour naturally.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

Hi OP,

Its very strange they havent given you a date yet. However, i was given a date and DS2 decided to arrive 10days earlier, i still had a C Section. The drs did try and asked me several times if i wanted a natural birth but i refused and had Csection as planned.

Hope all goes well for you ❤

@PepsiMaxCherry

Thank you for your reply. Everyone I've spoken too says it's odd too? I just feel like they are fobbing me off completely in the hope I will go naturally.

Baby is also back to back which I'm thinking babe is in no hurry!

That's what I want to avoid - I really don't want an emergency 😕 did you have many twinges before you gave birth earlier?

This is my third and I've had nothing! X

Why are you scheduled for a C-Section, is there something in your notes that makes this more serious? I’d be pushing at the GP AND MW end, as well as calling the consultants office...!

@Sessy19

For previous horrendous births and tears.
I'm petrified of going again with lifelong consequences. I've seen the consultant twice who had no objection. I just wanted to know if this was the normal procedure. I have another midwife appointment where I will be 39 weeks. It does make you doubt yourself if I'm doing the right thing 😖

I requested a cesarean due to a previous tear which was agreed at a 20 week consultant appt. At 30 odd weeks I was stressing because I still hadn't heard anything about a date and too felt I was being fobbed off. At 37 weeks they finally sent me a date through the post. I had my cesarean as planned at 39+2 weeks. Maybe ask your midwife to chase it up also?

Hi this is odd my first elective was booked around twenty 24 weeks I'm now almost 16 weeks and my c section was booked yesterday for early December at 39 weeks and 2 days. Fingers crossed they don't keep you waiting too much longer good luck x

I had the same thing - I was told I’d probably get 48 hours notice so they could do pre-op bloods. I ended up getting a call on the Thursday (when I was 38+4) to go in the following Tuesday (39+2). They said they were unusually busy! I now have a 9 day old baby and has a great elective experience Smile

NEtoN10 · 20/06/2019 16:40

I was given a date at 39 weeks for 39+6 and was only given the time the night before. It was stressful but they won't forget you!

NEtoN10 · 20/06/2019 16:41

It's great when you get a date. I had my hair cut and a nice blow dry, lovely nails and lashes 😂 knew it would be a long time before I could do such frivolous luxuries ha ha

I was given my date at a consultant appointment around 34 weeks. Had her dead on 39 weeks! Hoping it’s not changed this time around was was nearly 11 years ago! I am having a section for sure x

userabcname · 20/06/2019 16:48

A friend of mine had the same - was told she be called "around" her due date to go in for her ELCS (which she was, it was all fine). I'm due an elective at the same hospital in October and was told I'd be given a date at 36 weeks but who knows!

Pinkywoo · 20/06/2019 16:49

I've had my date since my 20 week consultant appointment, I'd just keep calling until you get an answer
