So...I'm grateful to be 5 weeks gone but I'm starving! All the time? Is this normal? If so will it settle? Xx

Just coming up to 7 weeks and am starving all the time but just to make it more fun, my appetite has disappeared and I feel nauseous every time I think of food!

lunababoona · 20/06/2019 11:49

I'm 9 weeks and totally starving all the time. If I don't eat I find myself feeling nauseous a lot! My jeans are starting to get very tight..

Gustavo1 · 20/06/2019 11:49

In my experience, it’s very normal. Make the most of it and eat. Also in my experience, sickness follows shortly after!

scratchbass · 20/06/2019 11:52

I felt hungry for the first trimester but careful not to eat any more than usual. I spread food out during the day more rather than sticking to 3 main meals, I probably didn't go more than an hour without eating something. Worked for me!

fonxey · 20/06/2019 12:31

I felt sooooo hungry during those first few weeks, prib up to about 11-12 is just be so hungry especially at night. Now i am to have calmed down. I can eat normally... For now at least!

Leleophants · 20/06/2019 12:44

Yes! Always have a whole pack of snacks on you (healthy ones too) and eat frequently

ReganSomerset · 20/06/2019 12:48

Yeah, unfortunately. It led me to put on top much weight. It's now entirely gone a year post partum but the stretched skin on my stomach still looks awful. Try and resist it if you can - at your stage you don't need any extra calories. Your body doesn't realise that we now live in a world where food is available on demand, so it drives you to stockpile in case of later famine.

eighteenandaching · 20/06/2019 12:55

Yes, normal. Don't add on to the stress and demands of pregnancy by trying not to eat when you're hungry.

Fingerscrossed2018 · 20/06/2019 16:03

Thank you all. I can't believe how much my stomach feel like my throat has been cut.
I'll take all your advice, eat when I need to but eat well. Might be time to do some more exercise. My OH half wants me to put my feet up (scared of another mc) but this feels so different I think we'll be fine.

Thanks again, a very hungry m2b xx

I've been like this since about 5 weeks, I'm now 16+5 and still starving 😩 luckily (sort of) my good aversions have meant I've eaten pretty well and have actually lost weight since getting pregnant.

happytobemrsg · 20/06/2019 17:49

I was starving until about 16 weeks! I’m 29 weeks now & have a little bump so I don’t think there has been any lasting damage Grin

motherofcats81 · 20/06/2019 19:56

Yep, 17 weeks today and still starving! I don't understand people who say just to resist it, I feel like I'm about to collapse if I don't eat, I've never been so weak and exhausted. I have put on more weight than advised in the first trimester but I've stayed exactly the same since 10 weeks so I do think the fat stores I put on are now being used to grow the baby :)

I absolutely could not get by with only one or two hundred calories more as some people advise, I do think everyone is different and a recent study by Duke University found pregnant women operate at 2.2 times their normal metabolic rate so how 100 extra calories could be enough I don't know! I don't love putting on weight but I know I'll lose it again and when my body is creating another human being is not the time I'm going to deny myself a biscuit where needed!

TwistofFate · 21/06/2019 05:35

I'm 7 weeks and starving! Trying to eat little and often so I don't put on too much extra weight. Last week hunger was accompanied by nausea before and after eating, but it's not been as bad this week.

Falafel19 · 21/06/2019 11:30

I was starving both times from about 5-10 weeks, starving and nauseous at the same time of course! I just ate whatever I fancied then, whatever appealed to me and that I could keep down, it tailed off then before 12 weeks and by 28 weeks I personally can eat very little between baby's position crushing my organs and non stop heartburn.

Bluebell9 · 21/06/2019 13:48

I was the same until week 8ish. Then the nausea hit. I ended up losing weight even though my stomach got bigger!
I'm now 21+5 and still eat lots for breakfast (more like breakfast, breakfast 2, brunch then lunch) but I can't eat much in the evenings, so its balancing out.

Fingerscrossed2018 · 25/06/2019 20:47

Well...looks like nausea has arrived lol..

Try eating little and often if you can. Helps a bit with the bloating. Being pregnant is certainly not a glamorous time in my life Smile

Sleepycat91 · 26/06/2019 14:26

From 6 weeks if i didnt eat every 2 hours i got sick, so getting up in the morning was horrific and i could barely move. Im 13 weeks now and hunger and sickness has eased off but ive still got food aversion to most stuff so just eating what i fancy and havent been put off by being sick

cardboard33 · 26/06/2019 15:05

Being hungry was my main/only pregnancy symptom. I didn't ever feel sick. I always eat little and often and being pregnant took it to the extreme. I solved it by taking a banana to bed each evening, having porridge before I went to work and then a second breakfast when I got to work etc. It will depend on your metabolism but for me, I needed it so listen to your body and just ensure you're eating healthy foods. I was 55kg before getting pregnant with a BMI they said was too low (it's completely normal for me though, I've been pretty much the same weight since the age of 16) and went up to 71kg by the end then lost 7kg after a few days, now around 61kg four months out and have been in my pre pregnancy clothes since about 3 weeks post birth. I dont have any stretch marks as I put the weight on gradually. I'm breast feeding and my breasts are so so so much bigger than normal so hoping that once I've stopped I'll instantly lose the final bit. Do you know what happened to your mum or sisters when they had babies? If you've got a similar figure then it might be the same. It was with me and my mum also said she had to eat more than normal from the get go.

Fingerscrossed2018 · 26/06/2019 15:36

Thanks all. I'm hoping this will pass but after having a crap time previously am just so grateful to be preggers. Driving myself mad but I'm determined to enjoy it and not worry. Guess for now I'm gonna be on the nauseous, eat, bloat cycle.. lol x
