Does my baby look really odd?

Got 20 week scan today and I'm so worried because this preview at 18Plus 4 shows a very odd looking baby. Will it change more? I'm feeling a bit paranoid that its face doesn't look right.

Looks very normal. It’s just your baby is looking at the camera rather than the more traditional profile view

Alloftit · 18/06/2019 07:24

Well obviously your baby will change more, you’re only halfway through!! Congratulations and best of luck with the rest of your pregnancy

mynameiscalypso · 18/06/2019 07:25

That's totally normal in my experience - three separate people described our scan pic at a similar time as looking like Voldemort from Harry Potter. At that stage they have no fat or anything so they look totally weird, it will definitely change!

Grin all babies look like weird little aliens at this stage

concernedforthefuture · 18/06/2019 07:33

It looks quite normal. I think the issue for you is that most usual 3D / 4D scans are carried out in later pregnancy (around 27 weeks), when the baby is much more developed and this early scan image looks very different to what you might have expected. An 18 week foetus looks... well more like a foetus than a baby. They have fused eyes, their skin is thin and has no fat to pad out their features. They're not pretty to look at!

Sessy19 · 18/06/2019 07:41

Of course it looks odd!! It’s only half grown!!! Give the poor bugger a chance!

ohdearymemumof3 · 18/06/2019 07:41

At my 4D scan at 17 weeks my baby looked like voldemort 😂 he didnt come out looking like voldemort luckily 🙈

Dvg · 18/06/2019 07:42

My baby scans made my son look like an animal, like a dog or a wolf, i was quite paranoid about it but he looks normal Haha

Mummaofmytribe · 18/06/2019 07:46

Absolutely normal. Promise. I've had five. They all look a bit other worldly when they're not even halfcooked

LetsBreakItDown · 18/06/2019 07:48

I have a scan picture that looks exactly like that from a private scan I had done at 22 weeks. My mum couldn't look at it, said it freaked her out 😂 I can safely say that when my baby was born, she was perfect. Baby is just looking right where the scanner is placed instead of a side view like other pictures.

Sessy19 · 18/06/2019 08:32

To be fair, it’s one of the better 3D scans I’ve seen. I’ve had to stifle my confusion many times when an enthusiastic mum has shown me a brown sludgey blur and exclaimed how ‘pretty she is’, trying desperately to identify the most basic of features!!

EspressoX10 · 18/06/2019 11:02

Totally normal.

Also, he/she is stretching their wee arms out, as if to ask for a cuddle.

Heyha · 18/06/2019 11:08

We got given a very similar face-on pic at our 20 week scan and I've had to hide it, it freaked me out! But we got another one quite randomly at a 32 week growth scan and it actually looks like a chubby cheeked baby as you'd expect. Don't panic 🙂

yiskasha · 18/06/2019 11:19

All babies look like little aliens at this stage. Your baby looks perfectly normal 😊

Mermaid04 · 18/06/2019 12:11

Hey, totally normal. My little boys ultrasound looked like yours when he looked at the camera. My other ultrasound looked like my baby had a really big jaw I was really worried lol as neither me or OH has a big jaw lol x

chillie · 18/06/2019 12:17

My husband asked why our daughter looked like E.T at birth and my brother called my nephew Yoda also at birth so I think you will be fine!

Pinkmouse6 · 18/06/2019 13:06

Grin, they all look like aliens on scans. I had a private scan at 17 weeks and took my DC along, they were completely freaked out by the 3D images! Luckily DS was absolutely adorable once born, nothing like the tiny alien we saw on that screen Grin.

Thanks all for replies. Off to my anomaly scan now so all will become clear in terms of her wellbeing. X

looks pwrfwcrly normal to me. This was my 20 week scan 3 weeks ago. Baby is just looking outwards so can see the facial features rather than a side profile pic x
