Hi
I have all the symptoms of low iron and I am 35 weeks. My sisters suffered with low iron in pregnancy too. I can hardly get out of bed. I called the dr today and the receptionist said i have to wait 10 days to be tested. Is this okay? I feel being housebound for 10 days will not be good for me but I get too tired just doing the simplest of things. I have also had shortness of breath which is a symptom.

You need to contact your midwife / community midwife team not the GP.
Surely you’ll have regular scheduled midwife appointments coming up anyway as you’re close to the end?

I contacted her this morning but have not heard back. In the meantime, a midwife at my GP's practice spoke to me and said 10 days is fine. I missed my last iron blood test I think due to change in midwives. A few things got missed.

Could you not just get some iron tablets and give them a go? They're safe as in pregnancy vitamins anyway, and will likely be the first suggestion after the test.

Obviously don't overdose of you're already taking some, and tell them if you're tested for iron so they can take it into account.
