Bed bound

37 weeks today. On Saturday I was dying for some exercise, I have tried to keep up (very) light jogging twice a week through pregnancy but it's been off and on. On Friday I dressed to go but felt a niggle in my hip so I thought I’d best skip it.

On sat I went for a long walk, which I thought would be fine. I did about 11,000 steps but halfway through I had this feeling like all the bones in my hips were loose! The word ‘relaxin’ came to mind right away. It wasn’t painful, just weird, perhaps a bit uncomfortable. Yesterday morning I was fine, but by the afternoon I had a pain in my right hip, and by the evening I had to limp around the house.

I should have gone to bed earlier but my mum was staying with me after an op, and she’s just gone home today. So I was cooking and being social last night. Today it’s really bad. I actually can’t walk. I’m not sure if I’ve done something to damage my hip as a result of putting too much strain on it.

I guess I’m asking if anyone’s been through similar? I’ve seen people complain about hip pain but this is the first time it’s happened to me.

If I was you I'd ring the midwife just to double check and make sure everythings ok.

Kudos for you still running at 37 weeks! I had to stop around 28 as my bump was so uncomfortable.

I'm 37+4 and have had similar experience since week 34. Good news is for me it's not been permanent. Sometimes my hips and lower back hurt so much I can't walk to the end of the road. Other days I can happily do 17,000 steps and feel great. If you're hurting I'd suggest taking a day or two of down time, do some light stretching and have a long warm bath. I also invested in a belt and had acupuncture, but more for my back Han my hips.

Good luck - we're almost there!

Thank you. Yes I’ve been able to run and play badminton as my bump’s not actually that big, which is ironic as the baby looks to be heading for 10lbs! (Scan next week to check if she’s slowed down or not).

I’m waiting on a call back from my doctor. A bath sounds like a great idea, although it will be hard to get downstairs to the bathroom.

Oh god that sounds awful. Is there anyone in the house who can help you? Definitely don't get in a bath on your own.

Hopefully the doctor can advise but my instinct says try to keep small movements. My hips always feel worse after I've been sat or lying down for a long time - they really seize up.
