I had a private scan today (internal), by my dates I’m nearly 8 weeks, no reason other than being really impatient to see if everything's ok, no bleeding or anything. There was a pregnancy sack visible and a yolk, but no fetal pole visible, and too early to detect a heartbeat
She told me I was looking more like just before 6 weeks!!
I didn’t track ovulation but is it really possible to be 2 weeks out!!!
Now I’m worried sick, is baby not developing properly, how can I be 2 weeks out !?
Has anyone had this? Or can anyone advise what the likely situation is?

Early scan, wish I hadn't!!

If you didn't track ovulation then it's perfectly possible to be 2 weeks out - LMP dates are not accurate because they assume ovulation was 14 days after that. 🤞 It is that OP

It's entirely possible to be more than 2 weeks out. My scan was booked for 14 weeks by LMP but only showed as 8 weeks! Due date went from beginning of march to end of April!! Try not to panic.

Hi lovely. I recognise your name from conception board, you didn't get a BFP until quite a few days late? Is it at all possible that you ovulated later than you thought?

What date did you get BFP? If it was about 2wks ago then I would not give up hope as that would tie in with being about 6wks?

Hugs x

SamRwl · 16/06/2019 18:25

@EverythingNow I didn't get my BFP until 8 days after AF was due, so yeah I guess that shows I was late ovulated, I just thought after an early scan I would get some reassurance but it's had the opposite effect !!
Thank you everyone x

I had the exact same. I was 10000% on my dates. I went to a early private scan convinced I was 8 weeks, when I got there I was only 6 weeks with yolk sac and no fetal pole.

I had another scan a few weeks later and there was my little bean with the little flickering heart. I had in fact ovulated late that month which meant I had conceived later than I actually thought.

Fingers crossed for you!! Wishing you all the luck in the world xx

@Shaunieh95 congratulations and thank you so much, I have my booking appointment with the midwife next Monday I'll explain everything and take it from there, already have my '12 week' scan booked for 16th July but not sure if I'll be able to wait until then xx

@SamRw that could definitely explain it - depending on how long your luteal phase normally is (how long after ovulation your period arrives) and how sensitive the test was. I got my BFP 12 days after ovulation but my period wasn't due for another 3 days after that. In your situation that would make it 11 days different to LMP dates - which is getting on for two weeks. Best of luck OP 🍀

As others have said, it all depends when you ovulated but I had a similar situation for a different (unknown) reason...

I had a scan at 8 weeks, yolk sac, no pole, no heartbeat. The sonographer said he thought everything was fine and I was just not as far along as I thought (but he didn't rule out possibility that actually it was bad news). Went back a week later, different sonographer found the heartbeat and said my original dates were spot on... 12 week scan bought my dates forward so I'd been further along than I thought the whole time!

I really hope it's good news for you!

ashleighsmilie88 · 17/06/2019 20:21

I had an early scan that put me as about 2 weeks behind what I thought, I still worked out from LMP and when I had my 12 week scan it was pretty much bang on what it should've been.

I'd worked out my due date as being 23rd August and dating scan put it as 24th.

SamRwl · 17/06/2019 20:53

@ashleighsmilie88 oh wow really !!! That's so helpful to hear that! I just assumes she must be right!! I've paid for another scan in 2 weeks time I think once I can hear the heartbeat I'll stop freaking out so much
Thank you ❤️x

When I had this it was a MMC but I was sure of my dates (it was impossible to be earlier than I thought since I’d tested positive at 10 DPO) so when I saw the scan I knew it was definitely a miscarriage despite the sonographer saying could be early, need to re-check etc.

However, if you only got a positive so late it would seem very logical that you are indeed not as far gone as you are by dates.

Roxy8203 · 17/06/2019 21:20

I had an early scan yesterday at what I thought was 7+6 but have been put back to 5 and a half weeks. I was using ovulation test kits so knew I had ovulated later than expected so it wasn't a big shock. Nurse offered an internal scan and we saw the flickering heartbeat which made me feel better, they offered a free rescan in 2 weeks which is the day before my midwife appointment.

SamRwl · 19/06/2019 11:25

I've booked in for another scan this Friday so I'm desperately hoping that things have improved xx
