Rising HCG but not doubling in early pregnancy -any success stories?

Hi,
So I found out I’m pregnant -4w 1d. It’s an IVf pregnancy. My HCG bloods are rising but not doubling in 48 hours. At 3w 5 d it was 43 then two days later at 4w it was 76. I was hoping for more like 90. I have also had two small episodes of spotting -that doesn’t wholly worry me as it could be to do with implantation but coupled with the slow rising HCG it worries me more.

Any success stories with slow rising betas??

@mouse1234567 sorry not really got much advise but when I had a bleed at 4 weeks they checked my HCG and it didn't double but they said it was on the 'lower side of normal' what ever that meant, I later found out it was actually quite low hence why they re did it a few days after!! Currently 22 weeks now xx

hi luvvy, I am going through pretty much the same thing as you and genuinely feel your worry!! After 3 miscarriages I'm being carefully monitored, my first HCG was 272, second was 473 and third was 712. There are no other issues and I have all the symptoms I recognise.

Anyway the hospital were very doom and gloom saying it was bad news however we went straight in for a scan and the lady said she could see the sac and scan wise it was perfect! in fact she saw two!

So what I would say is if they are rising please take the doubling thing with a pinch of salt, theres a study published where viable pregnancies had only a 35% rise.

The hospital would expect your HCG to rise by at least 66% every 2 days, not to double and a 66% rise would put ur HCG at 71 so you're over that!!!

Good luck and keep us posted, what are they doing next?

HJWT just out of interest what were your HCG levels? Huge congratulations on beating the stupid hcg crap! Medical people put FAR too much emphasis on it!

@rainbow1982 I cant remember sorry but I do remember when I was finally told being a bit panicked as it hadn't doubled but they didn't tell me until a week later when I went for my 2nd scan to see if there was anything in there! X

Thanks all-that’s really good to hear. I can’t decide if I will get any more HCG tests or whether it will just stress me out further. Being an IVF pregnancy I will have an early scan 6-7 weeks so perhaps I just wait till then and cross my fingers.

Me!!! I found out I was pregnant back in October. A few weeks later I had a bleed so was seen in the EPU, a scan showed a sac and a yolk but no baby as such. They took my HCG and had me back in three days later to take it again.

I've just found the numbers, if it helps.
First test - 341
Second test - 510
Third test - 798

I was told that it looked highly unlikely the pregnancy would be viable with them not doubling after three days. I was losing my mind with all the HCG testing and declined anymore, we were told to prepare for the worst and we spent the next five weeks just waiting for the miscarriage to start.

It's now June and my baby is due in just 5 short weeks! Everything seems healthy but I spent my entire pregnancy (still to this day) in fear thanks to such a rocky start.

Hope all goes well for you Thanks

That rise sounds fine to me for this stage of pregnancy - at that rate it will double within 72 hours which is normal.

@Nobhobs you poor thing what an ordeal-so pleases to hear it all worked out for you.

@Darkstar4855 thank you -I hope so -with years of infertility and ivf it’s been such a long road and all I can do is hope it’s all ok.

@mouse1234567 just wondering if you had an update and whether everything had turned out ok?
I had an IVF hcg blood test yesterday at 4w ans it came back similar to yours at 75.4 x

mouse1234567 · 27/06/2019 12:36

@itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted I’m afraid to say it didn’t end well for me. I don’t want to worry you though -my level at 4 weeks wasn’t the problem it was the progression from there. If yours continues to rise well then that’s a really good indication. Unfortunately I had a repeat test about 4 and half days later and it went from 76 to 159. Then 3 and half days later it only rose to 233. At that point the EPU advised me to stop IVf meds and 3 days later (today) heavy bleeding has started. It is sad but I was also worried I would have to wait ages to bleed so I’m glad I can now move on. Good luck to you.

@mouse1234567 I'm sorry it isn't worked out for you this time. I have a follow up test booked for Saturday so we ll see how that goes. I've had 4 miscarriages and an ectopic so I know how shit it feels
Take care of yourself and I hope you get your happy ending soon xxx
