When did you.....

I’m coming up for 32 weeks with dc4, so my question is...
When did you all start washing clothes and things for baby’s arrival?

And while I’m on the subject, when did you start nesting?

Lastly when did you pack your hospital bag?

I’m not feeling the urge to do any of these things yet 🙈 is that normal? I feel like maybe I should have started and I’m slacking perhaps? Or is it more normal to do these things once on maternity leave?

I started doing those things around 35/36 weeks when I went on maternity leave. I figure if baby is classed as full term by 37 weeks then I should probably have hospital bags ready from then.

...Saying that, I'm 38 weeks now and his nursery is no where near ready so still not really feeling organised! Good luck!

@pancakes22

Thanks, that’s reassuring! I keep getting the updates/emails from Bounty/Emma’s diary and all the other things I’ve signed up for and they’ve been talking about hospital bags for weeks so thought maybe I was leaving it a bit late 🤔 (especially since this pregnancy has not been a walk in the park!)

Seeing as this is DC4 I have no nursery to prepare - have a changing unit in my room (mainly for storage purposes else the baby won’t have anywhere to put anything lol) but it’s not where I want it and too heavy for me to move it alone! Just looks like a dumping ground atm lol! I do have a cardboard box 🙈😳 full of first size clothes, blankets and items I want to take to the hospital with me, so I suppose that’s a start! At least if I do need to get rushed in I can direct family to that box to get me things lol!

Think it depends on the person really and your pregnancy! I will probably get everything together and put to one side for the hospital at 32 weeks so if I need to shove it in a bag and go I can, but I had gestational diabetes in my last pregnancy and my consultant had already said she will probably induce me! I am only 22weeks!!

If your not looking at induction or anything though id say by 36 weeks just incase 😁 xx

Passthecake30 · 16/06/2019 11:41

I didn't get the nesting instinct with no2, which was a shame as I was relying on that to get me organised!

I think I washed the clothes as and when there was a warm day outside... all done by about 32 weeks (Autumn baby)

Hairwizard · 16/06/2019 11:54

31+2 with twins here. Had bag packed a month ago. Nesting kicked in this week though never got it with my first 2. Wondering is that a sign i will go early??🤔🤔🤣
House has been decluttered this week. Spotless too. Cant see it staying that way once twins are here 🤣🤣

@HJWT
Everything is up in the air atm! Looking at either induction or c-section (although I don’t really want either!) I have chronic high blood pressure (not pregnancy related) which for the first time in 2 years has been well controlled during pregnancy 😂🤷🏼‍♀️ Also my age is a factor 🙈 and I have quick births (not helpful living an hour away from hospital WITHOUT traffic) so with those reasons the consultant wants me to be in hospital and monitored throughout labour! High BP and previous sfga babies means I have regular growth scans which has also shown I have a low placenta 🤦🏼‍♀️ So my next scan will determine whether it has moved out the way enough for natural delivery or not! I’m hoping this baby will stay above the 10th percentile (currently on 14th which is my biggest baby yet 🤣) but if not induction/section may be sooner than expected! Also if placenta has moved then baby needs to move as well because she is currently transverse so will possibly be booked in for an ECV!
I think with everything so up in the air its all out of my hands and I don’t know what to pack! I literally packed bare minimum with my others and left the hospital ASAP after having them! If I could have my own way this time I would be having a home birth, so I’m really disappointed, and that doesn’t help lol!
Tbh though I don’t remember a nesting instinct with the other 3 either - but I was definitely more organised with the first 2 lol!

@Hairwizard
Wow! Lucky you to be so organised and get the nesting instinct lol! As I just said I never got a nesting instinct with my other 3 either - I am actually desperate for someone to come and clean/de clutter my house for me 😝 I’ve had no offers though lol!
I don’t know whether that is a sign - all 3 of mine came at 39 weeks! Maybe your body just knows you need to be more organised now you’re expecting twins? Wish I could be - feel like a complete mess atm lol! x

I definitely feel the need to nest now. I’m 33 weeks with baby 2 but I can’t until the decorating is finished. I normally like to be planned and organised ahead of time though.

Xyzzzzz · 16/06/2019 12:38

I’m 32 weeks. I packed my hospital bag last week but need to wash the baby clothes 🤦🏽‍♀️ So will have to repack my bag I’m sure.

I’ve not felt the nesting phase - when does this start?

LittleKitty1985 · 16/06/2019 13:59

We had everything ready the weekend of my 36th week... which was lucky because DS came on the Tuesday!

Lexyness · 16/06/2019 14:12

@LittleKitty1985 wow that was lucky then!

@Xyzzzzz I personally think nesting is a myth 🤣 I would love it to kick in but having already had 3 dc’s without nesting I don’t hold out much hope for this time either 😭 I’m too exhausted and need to rest too much to be doing any ordinary housework let alone the extras nesting is supposed to bring lol x

@lexyness I don’t feel so bad not feeling it then ha ha

EverythingNow · 16/06/2019 15:12

Hi @Lexyness I'm 33wks with number 4 and I have done very little. I go on Mat leave in 2wks so plan to start then but if I'm honest I'm not great at housework and keeping on top of the mess/washing that 5 +3dogs keeps me busy (as does lying on my bed mnetting 😂)

I need some sunny days to wash the nappies and snuzpod fabric. I am leaving the hospital bag to the last minute in order to trick the baby into coming earlier than his sisters. All my babies have been around 42wks so I feel like I have ages and ages to do stuff.

mistermagpie · 16/06/2019 15:32

I never had any sort of nesting instinct with DS1, he arrived very quickly at 38 weeks and my DH had to pack my bag while I was in labour! We didn't have a crib or anything, DH went and bought one while I was in hospital. We had bought the pram at 36 weeks though!

With DS2 I was a lot more organised but I learned the hard way!

EverythingNow · 16/06/2019 15:35

@mistermagpie I've had to rewash bedding with my last 2 where I set it up early and was waiting so long it got dusty and had to be washed again!

HJWT · 16/06/2019 15:46

I think If i was you id do it within the next couple of weeks! You never know with these doctors xx

Lexyness · 16/06/2019 15:52

@EverythingNow
I don’t feel so bad then 🤣 that’s basically my life! Can’t keep on top of it all what with working, husband, 3 kids, dog and laying in the bed 😝
@mistermagpie
Thankfully I think I’ve probably got most bits I need 🤔 got a second hand pram and I’ve just ordered a few bits to go with it whilst laying in my bed 🤣, bought a £10 Moses basket & stand from Aldi the other day as well as Muslins, bibs etc. Been stocking up on nappies and wipes etc as well! And my colleague has been buying everything reduced in B&M for me, so I now have bottles and dummies & other bits I hadn’t got round to buying 😂 (want to breast feed ideally but good to be prepared!)
I bought a bundle of 2nd hand newborn clothes the other day, looked through them and most of them were just fit for the bin 🙈 they had put all the nice bits on top so I didn’t notice when I checked! Oh well, live and learn! This is what sparked my thinking behind when I should be washing all this baby stuff!

I’ve made an amazon baby wish list and was really hoping someone might buy me something off it - but that’s looking like a lost cause as well! Never had a baby shower with my others either so would quite like one this time round but can’t see it happening unless I organise that myself and I don’t have the energy lol x

@HJWT thanks,
so this afternoon I’ve moved the changing unit and started organising it. Will attempt to wash all the clothes and bits & pieces this week, but the weather doesn’t help 🤦🏼‍♀️ also put my Moses basket stand together so now that is up and ready (still in packaging tho, will wash bedding nearer the time so as not to get dusty like others have said)
As I was doing all this I shoved a few things in a bag ready for hospital, so at least I’m a little more prepared! I have a hospital bag checklist too!
