Right I have been away from MN for a while and have come back because I need advice desperately and I know how good MN is for help and advice.

I have changed my name for this!!

Last year I came off the depo contraceptive injection because it was a nightmare and I hated it. It took 10 months for me to have a period which came at the end of January this year. Since then I have had one very small bleed and some browny slugey bleeding. Sorry if TMI.

Then 3-4ish weeks ago I had another very small bleed and lots and lots of browney discharge/blood, then a few days later more and then some more and then bright red blood that I thought was my proper period for a few days and then browny discharge. For the past few days I have had bright red blood and quite a bit of it with some blobs. All of this has been accompanied by the usual stomach cramps, so............. I did a test and I'm pregnant!!!!!!!!!

Not the best news in the world for me I'm afraid and I'm desperate to find out how long gone I am but don't have a clue with everything that has gone on!!

Can any of you shed any light on any of this any ideas about how long gone I could be (if it helps DH and I don't have a very active sex life once last week and then about once every 4-5 weeks prior to that!!).

Or do any of you know the quickest way to get a scan so I can find out how long gone I am shall I just turn up at the hospital tomorrow!!

So many questions I know but my head is spinning I have only known for about 30 mins!!!!

Please help!!!!!

I've got no experience with depo but I have had early scans in the past.

Do you have an early pregnancy unit locally?

You can self refer yourself to them. I'm sure all the bleeding and discharge you've been having will mean that they will see you as soon as possible.

Congratulations on your BFP, and whoever you were before, you should keep your new name...love it and wish I'd thought of it first

Jaquelinehyde · 24/07/2007 20:33

Thanks Daisy, I think there is an early pg unit at the hospital. Can I just turn up there do you think?

I would go tomorrow morning because I'm sure that scans don't happen out of hours so to speak.

I would give them a ring and explain what is going on, as my local EPU give you an appointment.

Have you had any other symptoms, like MS, sore boobs, weight gain etc that would maybe gove you a better clue?

PrettyCandles · 24/07/2007 20:49

It's also possible that you were pg.

Definitely call the EPU as they can do a scan and can do a blood test which will be more informative than peeing on a stick.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 24/07/2007 20:49

If you make an appt with the doc, providing you can get one some time this month and explain, they will refer you to the early pregnancy unit and give you a dating scan i would imagine.
i didnt know how far i was with ds2 until my dating scan and he arrived within a week of their estimate, which is pretty good.
I was impressed!

'I hope you know when the baby is due as i dont have a clue how far gone i am'

'dont worry dear. happens all the time!'

LadyOfTheFlowers · 24/07/2007 20:51

the clots and cramping could be an early miscarriage?
sorry, but that's what it struck me as initially.
they would probably still scan you though to check if you are still testing positive when you see the doc.

fettleandminifettle · 24/07/2007 20:52

I would phone and check - my local EPU requires a referral from your GP, so you might need to get an emergency appointment with your doctor tomorrow and they will book a scan for you. Other EPUs, as Daisy said and where I was pg with my first child, were turn up places, but you had to come between 8-9am. You'll be able to have a scan as you've had bleeding, so don't worry about that.

I hope you get the answers that you really want.

take care

You can get reffered to EPU through A&E, some A&Es have people on call who could scan you -just another thought. It does sound pretty tough i can understand why you just want to know ASAP hope it all works out for you

Jaquelinehyde · 24/07/2007 21:44

thanks for all the replies.

It all seems to be hitting home now, I'm going to go to A&E tomorrow and see if I can see someone.

hi there
just to add that you can get a positive pregnancy test AFTER a miscarriage (or abortion for that matter) because your hormone levels are still raised.
I'm not a medic but I agree with the poster who said it sounds as if you MAY have lost the baby.
hoping you get the news you want, whatever that is, and that you feel better soon

ChipButty · 24/07/2007 22:44

Hope it goes okay tomorrow. x

LadyOfTheFlowers · 25/07/2007 23:26

sorry that's what i meant.
depending on how long you have been bleeding. you may have lost the baby but will still test + so they would scan to be sure.
how did it go?
Xx
