Sick because I'm hungry, hungry because I'm sick

I am starving one minute then throwing up the next. Soon as I pluck up the courage or find something I actually want to eat I throw it up again. I have tried ginger...I hate it.

Any suggestions?

What have you tried eating?

angel0071987 · 15/06/2019 15:40

Little sips of smoothie or soup. Spaced out. Plain digestives or rich tea biccies nibbled. And try sucking sherbet lemons. Also lucozade isotonic drink frozen in ice cubes to melt on tongue for energy. Little and often helped for me

How often are you being sick, are you managing to keep anything down?
If it's severe I would recommend seeing your GP and talking about anti sickness medication.

I had to stick to extremely bland food, even on medication. Toast, plain rice, mashed potato (no butter Sad), and sometimes apples. Kind of how you would eat if you'd had a stomach bug. Anything remotely interesting made me ill, even when I was feeling good and wanting to eat.

Hope you find a solution!

I can't keep anything down, it's just bile coming up now. Been like this for 3 days now. I have tried toast, pita bread and humous, biscuits, peaches. I thought I felt better this morning so braved a weetabix and I wish I hadn't now. I am currently sipping lemon and ginger tea. I hate ginger so it's painful. I'm so hungry! I sucked on boiled sweets yesterday at work and just took sips of lemon water

Step away from the ginger and make an appointment with your doctor!

Bambamber · 15/06/2019 18:24

Are you keeping fluids down?

I found ginger didn't help at all, mint helped me a little more. It does sound like you need to see your Dr, you need to get some anti sickness meds to help keep your food down

JuniperNarni · 15/06/2019 18:30

Don't keep persevering with the ginger it's shit and even worse if you don't like it in the first place, it might be good for mild nausea but not what you are describing.

Call 111 and ask for an out of hours GP appointment, they can access you and give you some antisickness meds, you are at risk of dehydration so need to try and get on top of it sooner rather than later. Good luck, hope you're feeling better soon.

loutyre · 15/06/2019 19:54

No fluids aren't staying down. My DH has been and got me some peppermint tea. I will give them a call. My body just aches now and having to run around after a toddler isn't helping

Call 111 OP and get yourself checked and some meds and fluids sorted. It sounds horrendous.
I don’t know anybody who got on with ginger, it’s evil stuff. Lemon sherbets and potato cakes worked for me 🤷🏻‍♀️.
Hope you’re better soon x

ohdearymemumof3 · 16/06/2019 06:27

Yes make an emergency drs app or dial 111 and get some meds! I was in your place with my first, couldn't even keep water down, was sick so much i was bringing up blood! Ended up spending 2 days 1 night in hospital on a fluid and anti sickness drip. You may need the same thing! I came out feeling so much better though.

loutyre · 16/06/2019 17:35

Can't get seen until tomorrow lunch time so I've spent another day curled up in a ball bringing up anything I have attempted to eat.

Sounds like it could be hyperemesis I've had it twice and it's hell vomiting that much. The meds really helped. In the mean time try sips of flat diet coke with sugar added to rehydrate you (a gp told me this and I was sceptical but I could keep it down and it got me so I could eat a tiny bit). Maybe try a little bit of plain baked potato or hula hoops? That was all I could eat sometimes. Hang on in there you'll get through it. It's good you've got a doctor's appt. If the first medicine doesn't work keep going back there are quite a few they can try.

emmaluggs · 16/06/2019 17:50

I lived on crumpets and fizzy water for the first couple of months, little and often. I’d maybe have half a crumpet then another half an hour later. Your sickness does sound extreme so glad you have a DR’s appointment. Rest up and look after yourself

loutyre · 16/06/2019 17:52

Thankyou @Yayswimming I have read a lot about it this weekend. I wish I could just lay down and sleep it off but my house looks like a bomb has hit it and my daughter is a little rocket. My DH isn't helping much he thinks I'm being soft and just keeps telling me I need to "ride it out" I'm fed up this is day 4 now and I hear some women have it for months

Get ketosticks from a pharmacy and check if you are dehydrated and then if you are get an emergency appointment.

If your doctor doesn't help tomorrow (some will, some are shit with this) then get on to the pregnancy sickness helpline.

You need help with this now.

Sandybval · 16/06/2019 20:35

Oh no, hope the doctor manages to find something that helps and that the wait for the appointment isn't too horrific. I remember this, you've tried everything that worked for me like peppermint tea etc. Any chance it could be a bug?
