Due to various events happening in 2020, it would be v.convenient if DH and I managed to conceive in August, with a view to deliver between end of April and end of May 2020. If it doesn't happen on first cycle attempt, we'll shut up shop until February 2020, as from October onwards it doesn't matter when (if!) a baby comes. This will be our first try. We're under no illusions we'll be this lucky, but I wanted to ask you successful lot for any (additional to the obvious!) hints and tips?I've been off the Pill for 2.5 years, use condoms for contraception, and I use a period tracker app. Periods are regular and always have been, cycles are 27/28 days. I'm 33, he's 27. According to my app, I'll be ovulating on 1, 2, 3, 25-31 August.

So far...

On Monday I started on the Seven Seas 'Trying for a Baby' supplements, understand its best to take them in the lead up to TTC.

Thinking about getting DH on the Wellman conception supplements - anyone know if these should be started in the lead up to TTC or as soon as we start? I guess they're just a vitamin really, so no harm starting now?

Between now and August we're going to cut down on alcohol - we've got a 30th birthday party, and a wedding in Italy over the next 8 weeks, but that's it.

Thank you!

We did nothing special, I'd stopped using the contraceptive ring three months earlier. My BMI was 34 and DH drinks a lot. Had unprotected sex three times in January 2018 (when ovia app suggested I'd be fertile). DS is 9 monthsBlush Not boasting, just wanted to share as it suggests what you (don't) do makes very little difference. Good luck!

Pipandmum · 14/06/2019 16:49

Ignore your cycle and have sex every other day.

VapeVamp12 · 14/06/2019 16:51

I think the alcohol thing is a real positive. I haven't used birth control with my partner, now husband for about 2 years. I did dry January this year and didn't go back to drinking and I got pregnant in March! Might be a coincidence but I think it definitely helped.

TurquoiseKiss · 14/06/2019 16:51

Thanks! I know what you mean, we could buy in to all these 'add ons' and (if successful in Aug) we'll never know if they did anything to help.

I guess, at 33, i'm thinking i'll have less of a chance of, say a 23 year old, hence the preference to go all out. Especially as we'll have one month on, 5 months off.

You could try the conceive plus lub. We werent overly trying just "intentionally careless" for a couple of months with normal lub then I bought this stuff and I got preggers in that cycle think it helps lil swimmers where as the normal stuff slowd them down. It could be coincidence of course but maybs worth a try?
We didnt give up booze or anything else. We were lucky too I think!

Mamabear12 · 14/06/2019 17:17

I conceived first and only one try two times. My first 2 dc. I literally dtd once that cycle w my dh and I chose the right day. I also have a 28 day cycle. If you select the right time it def ups your chance. However, not always that lucky, as for our third dc it took us 6 months.

Murfs · 14/06/2019 17:17

lub?? I meant *lube Blush

TurquoiseKiss · 14/06/2019 17:18

Thanks Murfs, one of my friends was talking about a similar product (probably the same lube you mention) a last year, of course that sort of conversation goes in one ear out the other when you're not in that place. I'll add it to my list.

I would second just DTD every second day....even when tired. I got took seven seas trying to conceive and my husband started taking the male equivalent. I would recommend pre-seed too. I heard lots of success stories and we conceived during our second month of using it. Good Luck!

poopedagain · 14/06/2019 17:20

Use ovulation predictor kit, get cheap ‘one step’ ones off amazon. Worked for us on our first try, twice.

fonxey · 14/06/2019 17:20

33, stopped contraception in dec/jan, pregnant by march.

Just shag as much as possible, Eat healthy, get those ovulation pee sticks and use every day so you know to up the shagging to every day. 😋

fonxey · 14/06/2019 17:22

Yeah pre seed is good too, if you need it, don't use other lube. I'm not sure if it helps you get pregnant any better than using what's natural.

TurquoiseKiss · 14/06/2019 17:23

Thanks guys, can you send me a link to the Amazon cheap ovulation pee sticks? Shall I just wee on them each day and if it says i'm ovulating ensure we DTD that night? (We're both 9-5'ers, its always at night!)

Same for us - we conceived in dry January this year after 14 months of ttc. Not that we were huge drinkers before and it might be a coincidence too, but for the sake of giving it your all for a month it couldn't hurt.

SleepingStandingUp · 14/06/2019 17:29

Honestly, if you have one month to conceive presumably with a view to a 2 month window for delivery, and giving birth in June / July etc would be so inconvenient, why not just wait til Feb?
I don't mean that nastily. I just can imagine many scarios where giving birth in say June would be awful but having a 4 wk old screaming baby who doesn't sleep through etc would be totally cool.

Having said that, supplements and cutting alcohol is good. Sex every other day in the run up to keep his sperm fresh. Legs up after sex to give the sperm a chance to get there. Def no getting up for a wee.

Chocolatepeanuts · 14/06/2019 17:33

Second tge pee sticks amd preseed. Fell 1st try for 4 pregnancies. Good luck.

Chocolatepeanuts · 14/06/2019 17:33

Sorry didn't proof read!

TurquoiseKiss · 14/06/2019 17:35

Thanks SleepingStandingUp, I am my sisters maid of honour on 31 July 2020 - hence wanting (ideally) to have a baby who was 8-12 weeks old at this time. Or alternatively, being no more than 5-6 months pregnant (if it happened any time from February). I'm 34 in March, so that's why we're starting (albeit for a short time) in 2019 rather than waiting till 2020.

SleepingStandingUp · 14/06/2019 17:40

Oh apparently sex from behind is meant to help, the sperm sorts gets a massive push start. Afterwards, just drop your head and keep your ass in the air for a while then lie down. No wee. Def not on top.

samks · 14/06/2019 18:05

I’m 33, had my coil out 28th Feb and am now 15 weeks pregnant so it is possible! I am due early Dec. I never expected it to happen so quick. I didn’t do anything special really though. Just give it a go and see!

museumum · 14/06/2019 18:10

We did nothing deliberately special but I get hideous ovulation pain so we dtd the evening of day I had the jabbing pains. First month success. Was actually rather shocking as I was 36 so we expected a long and upsetting ttc journey.

Beck2277 · 14/06/2019 18:18

I didnt track ovulation and had been off contraception for a couple of years and using condoms like you mentioned. We were on holiday, decided to try and bam! 8 weeks pregnant. No pressure on it, no pre planning just happened. We dtd quite a lot in a week (every day or every other) and didnt know until later in the week I was likely to ovulate that week. Definitely something in being relaxed I think and dont put too much pressure on it. We even used normal lube and obviously didnt stop it happening! Still in shock but shows it can happen. Just have fun and try not to stress too much initially :)

E899 · 14/06/2019 18:53

Myself and my husband were trying for a year and in April we used the pro seed lube and in May found out we were pregnant! May just be a coincidence but would definitely recommend a go!

Good luck!

scratchbass · 14/06/2019 19:49

Another vote for conceive plus here! We used that and the him & her pregnacare. I wouldn't bother with the ovulation sticks at this stage, don't stress and see what happens!

Yeahyeahyeahyeeeeah · 14/06/2019 19:56

My friend swears by the 30 day shred..

You have sex every day from day 3 of your cycle (still possible period). No more (apparently some people manage that). You stay with ass in air for 20 mins afterwards and try for longer.

I had 2 pregnancies (1 baby Sad) from this, first month each time.

She had 2 out of 2

My consultant (6 pregnancies with a ‘low sperm’ husband) said daily was optimum.
