Scan/combined test and announcing pregnancy

Hi all, just wondering what others did.. I have my 12 week scan today and (if, please god, it goes well) was intending to tell family the day after and colleagues on Monday. I've just realised though that we won't get the blood test back on the day so won't know the risk of chromosomal abnormalities immediately. How long did the blood test take to come back in your experience? And if everything looked OK on the scan did you tell people then or wait? I'm 37 and DP is 43 so risk of Downs etc is probably higher than average. Thanks.

Good luck in your scan today!
This is my first pregnancy, I told my family around Christmas time but didn't have my first scan until January. It's all down to you when you feel comfortable mentioning the news etc. My results came back within a week via post but I do believe if there is a problem they call you which I would assume it'd be quicker than a week but not 100%.

Hmm, thing is if there was high risk we'd be likely to go for the diagnostic tests and potentially terminate which my mum would be massively against I know. I guess we'll have to wait.

Have you considered the harmony test? It's £££ (not available on NHS) but the results were back in less than a week for me. I waited to tell until after those results and am still waiting for my combined test results which were taken over two weeks ago.

I was 38, we told my parents after a reassurance scan at 9 weeks then announced it at 12 weeks after harmony.

stormtrooperjulian · 14/06/2019 09:41

My test results took over two weeks to arrive. I was told that I’d get a phone call within a week if there was an issue though so once a week had passed I felt fairly confident about it.

LoisLittsLover · 14/06/2019 09:43

We get told on the day if anyyhing comes back high risk, via a phone call

Kate3150 · 14/06/2019 09:55

I had my first scan on Tuesday and was told I would hear back within the next 3 working days so planning to tell people after today. (if all is well 🤞🏻) pregnancy is so nerve wracking, I wonder if at any stage it calms. I think I’m going to be one of those people who only relaxes when bubs is born xx

IcelandicYoghurt · 14/06/2019 10:55

Kate3150 I think I'm just going to get even more stressed after the baby born! Grin

Thanks all. The leaflet says give results within 3 weeks by which time I'll be nearly 16 weeks which is a bit late! But maybe they'll tell us something different when we actually go for the scan.

I think we'll probably only do the harmony test if the NHS one comes up higher risk.

A week or 2 with both of mine. We announced before the results came back with my first, then got a call back about them. Everything turned out fine but with my second we waited for the results before announcing.

Bambamber · 14/06/2019 13:15

You generally get a phone call within a few days if the results come back high risk. Otherwise you get a letter through in the post within a couple of weeks

mistermagpie · 14/06/2019 13:32

I was told I wouldn't get the results until 16 weeks too, which I why I did the harmony as I think by then you are too late for a CVS.
