I'm 37weeks and have a gestational diabetes test tomorrow. I'm not feeling great and the thought of fasting, having bloodtests and sitting for 2 hrs waiting around is not appealing if it'll not change a thing. If I do have it (they don't think I do I have polyhydramnios for the 3rd pregnancy and it wasn't the cause previously) what will they do now? If they won't take further action, need to induce me, etc. I'm wondering what the point is at this point? Can it affect baby? Or make me ill? They've given me no info but I know from previously I can't eat/drink from 9 besides water can I? Thanks in advance

I’m surprised you have to do a gtt. I was allowed to just text my blood at home before and after meals at home for 3 days and report back.

They need to check because if baby has been exposed to diabetes in the womb they are at risk of having low glucose at birth/for a few days after and so the medical team can be aware and put steps in place to help. It’s not massively serious they will just check baby’s blood glucose and give glucose with a feed if needed. Good luck x

I had my GTT at 26 weeks but was girl with me that was 38 weeks they told her that it was important to know as it would affect how they would treat baby if she had diabetes I had to fast for 12 hrs before including no water!

I’ve just had gtt test. You have to fast for 9 hours before. They normally test at 9 (so fast from midnight) and then you break the fast with a high calorie drink and two hours later you can eat as normal again. You can drink as much water as you want during the fasting time.

There's been an error, they can't do the test in the same way at 37weeks, someone booked it too late so I've been allowed to eat breakfast and need to go back in an hour for a blood test.
