Sex in early pregnancy

We've had sex a couple of times since finding out I was pregnant but on Friday I had a massive bleed during/afterwards. Like medium flow period I would say. It was significant and I ended up at EPU. I was scanned today and everything appears fine for dates, no heartbeat or fetal pole yet but I am only 5.5 weeks. During the scan they checked for any causes of bleeding and found nothing so am assuming it's my cervix (which won't be checked I guess unless I go to the GP?)

I should have asked the nurse really but should I avoid sex now? I am terrified of it happening again, but on the other hand I don't want to avoid it, it's always been a big healthy part of our relationship. DP is obviously very understanding and has pretty much said maybe it should be off the table for now...but at what point can we/should we do it again?!

The same happened to me and we avoided sex until the 12 week scan.

I'm sure lots of people will say it's fine and totally safe but I was just too worried. It's only a few weeks in the grand scheme of things.

(Although I had another bleed at 23 weeks and was then told to refrain from sex until 32 weeks. That was 7 years ago and we're still going strong, so it was fine, we managed!)

Thanks @simplekindoflife I am of the mindset that I will wait. I have another scan in 11 days at 7 weeks and then I'm having the Harmony test and scan at 10 weeks so maybe after then, and I should hopefully see the midwife before then for booking so can ask her.

It was pretty scary seeing so much red blood, I think it put the wind up DP too, he was the first to spot it.

It is so scary! But it seems to happen to quite a few people with no obvious cause. And my baby was an 8 pounder born on her due date, happy and healthy. She's 7 now and on the 91st centile for height! So was all ok in the end.

Best of luck with your pregnancy Thanks

Thanks @simplekindoflife I think I am just going to avoid for a while, won't help my stress levels if I bleed again!
