How exactly do you do pelvic floor exercises?

This may seem like a really weird post but I'm still not convinced I'm doing them right and since I'm so scared of labour, really want to!

Do you just 'pull in' like stopping yourself pee? Is that it? I read somewhere that shouldn't pull in your bum too Confused how is that possible? Also if I do loads of tenses it's really uncomfortable so not sure it's even right...

This is not the most glamorous description but this is what the midwife said to me...

First squeeze your bum as if you're trying to hold in wind, then squeeze the front as though you're trying to stop yourself weeing. Another said to imagine you're zipping yourself up from the back to the front. Hold for 10 seconds and release. Do that 10 times, and then do 10 quick ones.

I find it easier propped up on a pillow with knees bent in front of me. if I lay down I pull my bum in and not my pelvic floor. worth trying a few positions
