Chorionic villus sampling

Hi,

I’m booked in for a fetal med scan in a few days. I’ve just spoken to the midwife in charge in the department who answered a lot of questions I had. She said I would be offered a Chorionic villus sampling test also. When I asked how long after this would be she replied the same day.
I’ve decided I do want the test done as I feel like I can’t enjoy my pregnancy because of the constant worry that something is wrong.
I normally say that I am the most unlucky person in the world as everything that can go wrong always does. I’m so worried about the risk of miscarriage! I’ve had two before and I know that if the test does cause it I will blame myself for choosing to do it in the first place. Or again be unlucky and get bad results showing a horrible condition.

I will literally feel like all my Christmases have come at once if both end up fine.

Has anyone had Chorionic villus sampling done and had good results?

Thank you x

Happyhippo22 I have had t done three times. 1st was because I was deemed high risk and had a 1:34 chance of DS. He was fine. 2nd was 1:2 chance of a number of a chromosomal issue and he did have DS. Had a mass bleed the same day I had the CVS. 3rd was 1:4 risk but he was fine. You can get the harmony test which is not invasive and I believe is 99.9% accurate so if I had a choice I would go for that.

@aweedropofsancerre thank you for replying. I did ask the question about the harmony and they said they don’t recommend it because it doesn’t test for chromosomal issues which from the combined test can be one of my problems.

The bleed that you had the day after ? Did everything turn out fine?

Thankyou xx

Happyhippo22 didn’t have any issues with the bleed and baby was fine. They are very careful and scan throughout the procedureS Good luck, the CVS was uncomfortable but I got my results within 2 to 3 days so was quick too. Good luck and hope all goes well.

I personally would compare the risk of these conditions in the baby with the risk of miscarriage from CVS. If the risk of miscarriage is a lot higher then I probably wouldn’t do it.
