Folic Acid

I started taking daily folic acid tablets as soon as I found out I was pregnant - at roughly 4 weeks. It wasn't completely planned, so I hadn't been taking the tablets 3 months before (like they recommend). Could this harm my baby? Has anyone else done similar?

I wouldn't worry! There are so many people out there who's pregnancy has been a complete surprise and they haven't touched a folic acid tablet in their life - they go on to have healthy babies! Me included!! There was a time not so long a go that these tablets didn't exist and healthy babies kept being born too. It's good that you are taking it now - that's the important bit. X

I didn’t take any folic acid with DD. She wasn’t planned and I didn’t know I was meant to take them until my MW appointment at around 15 weeks (I was in denial).

She is now a beautiful 5yo, perfectly healthy and full of energy.

The chances of spina bifida are low but increased if it runs in families so try not to worry. it is found naturally in green vegetables if I remember rightly so you may have been getting enough before 4 weeks without realising.

Great, thanks ladies. It did cross my mind after writing this post that there's a lot of unplanned pregnancies, where the ladies haven't taken the tablets. So that eased my mind a little. Thank you 😊

If you eat cereal or sliced bread you will have been getting folic in these as they are forfeited with it.

I'm the same, the midwife told me not to worry the risk is very low.

I was poorly for a few dsy last week and couldn't take my folic acid so that made me worry abit, but I'm sure a few days off would be fine too.

I'm 7+6

I only took mine for about a month before my BFP and the midwife said that was great but not common. There are plenty of healthy babies so I think you'll be just fine.
