12w pregnant and horrendous headache

I'm having this awful headache today which just won't go away. I am drinking a lot of water. Paracetamol didn't move it one bit and I am afraid DH's fingers may fall off if he keeps massaging my head and neck. What else can I do? Desperate here - feel like cracking open my own skull.

Have you had your iron levels checked? I had this in my 3rd pregnancy and it was awful. My midwife just dismissed it but a student midwife suggested low iron and told me to get spatone. I got home, knocked back 2 in some orange juice and within hours felt like my old self. The headaches went almost instantly

4head is safe when pregnant I lived on the stuff the first few months. Forgot all about that until reading this thread.

I have no idea about what may be caused your migraines or if you can take ibuprofen when pregnant but what helps my migraines is to take 2 paracetamols and 2 ibuprofen together, and put something very cold at my nape (like a can that has been in the fridge or a bag of frozen peas).

@mumslave - no, they didn't check my iron - I'll definitely ask them to do that since this is second time it happens in the last 10 days. I think today's headache was provoked by wind and polen as I could feel it coming when we were out this morning... but by the evening it turned into a monstrous, eyes-closing pulsating pain that won't go away. Even vomited again (and not sure if it was just morning sickness or headache-induced).

@Rarfy, thanks - I had no idea. Will have to stock up for future.

Thanks @Tan - can't take ibuprofen when pregnant, unfortunately.

Also if pollen is a problem boots do a barrier nasal powder spray thing which is also safe when pregnant. Can you tell I was pregnant this time last year haha?

I was the same when i was pregnant but all usual blood tests came back fine.

Try the peas/can, still help 🙂

Ps. If you can recognise a migraine brewing, take the paracetamol straight away, don’t wait until it peaks.

I have found the link to iron interesting. I have migraines often but haven’t for 2 months until yesterday and this morning. It has just clicked that I have not taken iron supplements for 4 days. That’s the kick I needed to go and get another bottle tomorrow!
