Private harmony test

Hi all,

Has anyone had a private harmony test following results of the combined test results?
I’m due to get my results from the combined test any day now. It was sent as urgent due to the fluid at the back of baby’s neck measuring slightly higher than it should be.
I have this horrible feeling that even if the results come back as low I am still going to want to book a harmony test for piece of mind.

Anyone found themselves in this situation?
Need reassurance? X
Thanks xxx

A lot of people use it as a buffer between nuchal transparency and the CVS / Amnio.

You could use it to verify a low risk result but bear in mind that if the Harmony test does come back high risk it still isn’t definite - you would need a CVS/Amnio to verify it.

If you are over week 14 by the time you would consider getting it done then you could request special private ultrasounds instead (you could have one a month for the cost of the harmony test) and they can look for other signs of all three illnesses (and more). For example even with increased nuchal transparency if your baby has an obviously long nose bridge and longer limbs, Downs is unlikely. Also Edwards / Patau often shows up with clear physical abnormalities. The scan could also potentially identify other problems too a bit earlier too.

Up to you though. I guess the main question here is would you want to keep a baby where profound disorders were found? If yes then you probably don’t need to do Harmony but can just pay for extra testing or go for an amnio after week 30 (no miscarriage risk just early labour risk there) so you can be prepared. If no then maybe go for an CVS / Amnio so you know for sure.

We had it and came back as very low risk. The combined test came back as 1 in 85 and Harmony came back at 1 in 10,000. It is 99% accurate so this was incredibly relieving for us.

We did not want to consider CVS or amnio as the MC risk actually outweighed our Downs risk. We have said with any future children, we will not have the combined test and instead pay for Harmony again.

I had it instead of the combined test and results came back in under a week. Worth looking at different places for turnaround times as some take up to 2 weeks. It must be a stressful time for you so I’m guessing you just want answers as soon as possible.

I have had it 3 times instead of the combined test. But I would not have continued a pregnancy affected by one of the three major trisomies and I wanted to know one way or the other as early in pregnancy as possible. It is very close to diagnostic although it is true that in the event of a positive result you would have to have CVS or amnio to confirm.

My combined test came back as a 1:90 chance of downs syndrome so I had the harmony test and feel confident with the result as we were told it is over 99% accurate. I think that next time I'll go straight for harmony and cut out the awful stress and worry of the combined result. I hope you get good news.
