Hi all,
I found out I was 4 weeks pregnant 6 days ago however, was chatting with a friend who freaked out when I said I had my hair bleached (tsection) and a spray tan done the day before I did my test (didn't know I was pregnant at that point) .... Apparently these both can harm a fetus'... Does anyone know? I'm so worried now 😭

  • midwife here -
I absolutely would not worry!! The concern with these things is mainly that your skin is likely to be more sensitive/likely to have allergic reactions - which can be more difficult to treat when pregnant due to restrictions with medications. If you haven’t suffered any reactions from that point of view you are fine!

You can’t change anything now, and very very unlikely to have harmed your baby.

Don’t worry and enjoy your pregnancy as much as you can x

And your friend although probably trying to be helpful, possibly isn’t the best person to take advice from x

Thank you @honeyhippo she was more sayin about the inhalation of the spray tan fumes and the bleach going in my bloodstream.... I've read online mixed opinions on this.... Xx

It’s not something we discuss when giving women information re. foods/medications to avoid in the booking appt.
Had it been hugely important/dangerous, I’m sure it would be incorporated into the routine NHS info x

Honestly, if it was me - I’d worry about medications etc but not bat an eyelid at hair dye and fake tan whilst pregnant!

As I say - you can’t change it now so just try to move on and forget it - and possibly not have those treatments again during your pregnancy - if only to keep your worries at bay x
