Maternity leave question

Weird question possibly, but I am a bit clueless about logistics!

I had planned to do another few weeks at work, but DD arrived 6 weeks early on Sunday! I have been totally zoned out because of low blood pressure and some little complications till today, but I'm now feeling much more like myself and DD is doing incredibly well, so I feel like I'm capable of rational thought again :D That being so, I've just realised that I've left a project half completed and absolutely no instructions - since I was planning to get it all wrapped up over the next two weeks. So my question is, would it be "acceptable" on maternity leave to email in the instructions to my line manager and ask her to pass them on as needed? Or is it better protocol to contact HR and ask them what I need to do?

I feel a bit weird for worrying about this, but it feels odd to have left with no warning and I do want to do everything in a good and considerate way!

Ask your line manager what he/she would prefer you to do - HR won't have anything to do with how your project is being handled or what work information is given to your maternity cover.

Sorry I've just seen your manager is a she so I didn't need he/she!

just email in to your line manager that's fine. you're not prevented from contacting them, just not expected or obliged to.

and if you're happy for follow up questions make that clear, but then put a stop to ad hoc queries once handed over.

Just contact line manager with the handover instructions. Chances are if it’s a vital project someone already has taken it on and contacting your stakeholders so even the handover wouldn’t be required.
