Fever in pregnancy

Hi all
Has anyone had an infection with high temperatures? I’m currently 17 weeks pregnant and had a fever for 3 days now. Just wanted to know if anyone else experienced this and still delivered a healthy baby. Was told that high temperature is very dangerous in pregnancy :(

Hi.
Have you seen / talked to a midwife? It really depends how high your temperature is. A mild fever is not necessarily dangerous.
I had an infection with high temperature for three days, around the same stage as you, I went into the hospital to be checked, but baby was fine. I was told just to keep taking paracetomol to keep temp down. I'm 30 weeks now and everything is well. No further problems, and I'm pretty certain baby is healthy.

It's doubtful you will be in danger unless you've had an extremely high temperature for 3 days. But if that were the case you'd be so unwell you'd be in hospital right now.

It’s not necessarily the temperature but the cause of the fever that’s the problem, as it’s possible for the baby to get it from the second trimester. Certain conditions are worse for babies later on than earlier on, while others are worse earlier rather than later. Things like flu tend to be more of a problem if you’re at risk of further complications.

Talk to the midwife. If you are worried she can help or even arrange a scan.

I have seen a doctor and was told I have a strep throat and been given antibiotics. I am also taking paracetamol to try keep my temperature down but on few occasions it raised to even 38.8 before I could take the next dose. I was only for couple of hours and dropped below 38 after taking paracetamol.

Should have added this was on day 2. Have a scan in three weeks time. Doctor told me not to worry as it shouldn’t harm the baby. I think it doesn’t help I’ve been googling staff and found that there is a higher chance having baby with autism because of high temp. Obviously every mother wants her baby to be healthy. So I wanted to find out if there are parents who experienced similar and still have a healthy baby

@Lootus did you find answers at the end? I am wondering about the health of my baby now since I’ve got a fever. I’ve called triage but they told me to keep taking paracetamol.

I did at 22 weeks (kidney infection). My DS is a healthy 21 month old now.
