Boy or girl - conflicting scans!

So I had a private scan at 16w where I was told one sex and at my 20w scan I was told the other! This has sparked mass debate among my friends about the accuracy of the 16w scan. Out of interest, what do people make of the attached potty shot from that scan? Boy or girl? Obviously this is lighthearted, I appreciate these things aren't 100%.

Boy. What is it?

Angelinthenightx · 05/06/2019 18:39

Id go with what the 20wk scan said ,i think 16wks is too early to be 100% x

Leleophants · 05/06/2019 18:42

Could be either especially if that was 16 weeks!

Pommes · 05/06/2019 18:44

Girl would be my guess.

GrandmaSharksDentures · 05/06/2019 19:04

It's usually easier to tell if it's a boy, so if you were told boy at 20 weeks I'd go with that

userabcname · 05/06/2019 19:15

Thanks all! I was told boy at 16w and girl at 20w. Not sure whether 16w is just too early to tell or if he was just hiding at the 20w!

@ohdearymemumof3 that is clear! To be honest I thought mine was until the 20w scan

A similar thing happened to my friend she was told boy at 16 weeks then girl at 20 weeks. She ended up getting another scan which confirmed it was a girl. Having said that from your 16 week scan it very much looks like a boy. I was told they were more likely to get girl wrong as it's simply because they don't see anything. Think your only way to be sure is another scan or waiting till baby arrives.

username888888 · 05/06/2019 19:46

Sorry thought the above scan was yours just realised it's not.

userabcname · 05/06/2019 20:11

@username888888 yes I think we will have a surprise now, I don't think I'd trust another scan at this point!

The 16 week does look like a boy scan...but it is usually more often wrong when they say it's a girl when its boy...not boy then girl...Must be so annoying for you not knowing...But I guess the 20 week would be a more developed stage to determine?

userabcname · 07/06/2019 07:22

Yes my3boys - I think maybe he was just hiding and that's why she thought girl? Either way we will make sure to have a boy and a girl name ready for baby's arrival!

Was your 16 week scan a private one? I know someone who was told she was having girl at a private gender scan at 16 weeks, but went for her 20 week NHS anomaly scan and was told she was having a boy. She got in touch with the private company who agreed to re-scan her for free to double check and once they had confirmed she was having a boy they gave her additional 4D scans for free later in her pregnancy by way of apology. Thought I would mention it because if your 16 week scan was private then it might be worth getting in touch with them... Smile

userabcname · 07/06/2019 14:57

@MrsAJG yes it was private so I could do that! To be fair at the 16 week one she had a hell of a time seeing anything as baby was wriggling / not in the right position so I'm not sure if that played a part and may be why the potty shot isn't as clear? Perhaps I'll give them a ring and see what they say.
