12 week scan- when did you have yours?

Hi everyone.

I am 11 weeks exactly today. I had my first midwife appointment last week and from there they are contacting my hospital and I have been told to wait for my letters to come through from the hospital, one of which is my appointment for my 12 week scan. I had blood tests and took a urine sample to my appointment last week, which they sent off, and I received two text messages from the doctors to say the results were back and no further action was required. From this, although it is a different department, I am guessing the hospital are now aware of me.

However, I am yet to receive my letters from the hospital. I am still none the wiser as to when my 12 week scan will be. I know there is still time but I want to give the letter to work to give them notice of my appointment. There is no issue with being allowed time off, but I teach so they need to find cover or cancel the classes, which they need notice for.

I know the title of this thread sounds silly- when did you have your 12 week scan, because I know the obvious answer would be at 12 weeks, but I was wondering if anyone had their scan at different times like 13 weeks, 14 weeks, etc? I am now thinking that I am 12 weeks in exactly one week’s time, and as I have yet to receive an appointment I would think it would be a bit short notice to get a letter now for an appointment in a week’s time.

I was giving it until the end of the week to see if I get my letters. If I don’t get anything by Saturday I will be giving my doctors a call to see if they can chase it up, have any information or give me a contact at the hospital to find out myself.

Thank you in advance.

12+2.
However, I hadn't received my 20 week scan letter the other day so just walked into the ultrasound dept at the hospital and asked if/when it was booked for. Sod's law, the letter arrived later that day!

HK2009 · 05/06/2019 17:28

I had mine at 12 weeks but think they can be any time up until 14. Just give your midwife a call and she can give the hospital a nudge :)

Newmumma83 · 05/06/2019 17:29

Call them and chase it, the only scan I got with out chasing it up was my 12 week scan I had to chase all the rest ... big congratulations x x x

Shelbybear · 05/06/2019 17:31

I was 12 wks 5days when I had my scan. Booking in was at 9 weeks and letter came through at 10weeks though.

If you've not heard by Friday call your midwife to chase this up for you.

MsSquiz · 05/06/2019 17:35

I had my booking in appointment at 8+1 and was told I'd hear from the hospital about the scan in 2 or 3 weeks.
We ended up at the hospital today for an internal scan as I had a small bleed on Sunday - everything is fine Smile and the nurse checked the system for my scan appointment and it's booked for 13 weeks exactly, apparently there is a letter on its way to me.

If I hadn't heard by Friday I was planning on calling up though.

Thank you. As it’s only been a week since I had my midwife appointment I thought I would give it until the end of the week and then call the doctors. I don’t have details for the hospital yet, they just said if there is a problem now to go to A&E. The midwife I saw at the doctors last week was not the usual midwife that’s there so the only number available is my doctors surgery. I have the maternity notes app (I’m assuming it is the same elsewhere but I was told you don’t have paper notes now, it’s all done electronically) and I have been checking that just in case the hospital can update it their end, but there is no update.

Thank you for your congratulations and help. Congratulations to you all too and wishing you all healthy and happy pregnancies.

I have just called my doctors to see if they had a contact number. They checked my notes and it says I have been referred to the hospital but nothing else. I tried calling the ante natal department at the hospital on their recommendation but they closed at 5pm (I did think there was a chance that they may close at 6pm), so will try again tomorrow.

12+2

Megan2018 · 05/06/2019 18:07

My 12 week was at 12+4 (12+1 based on my dates but they were 3 days out as it turned out) but my booking in was 6+4.

We are still on paper notes here, the letter with the 12 week scan took about 10 working days after the booking in. Don't hang on that long though as you need to make sure it is done early enough so you can have the combined test done (if you want it).

SleepingStandingUp · 05/06/2019 18:09

Mine will be at 11+2. According to lmp I should be 12+1 but I won't be.
Thankfully midwife books it whilst your in the booking in appt here

Spam88 · 05/06/2019 18:19

Mine's booked for 13 weeks, letter came 8 days after booking appointment. First time round it was 13+5 or something like that. Ideally it's supposed to be done before 14 weeks.

You could try calling the radiology/ultrasound department. If you can't find the number on the website then just call main switchboard and ask to be put through.

Rememberallball · 05/06/2019 18:35

My booking in appt was at 10+5 (I was away from 5+4 till 10+4 so it was the soonest it could be booked in!) and my scan was at 12+5. The hospital rang me wanting me to bring extra information with me (which was unnecessary as we didn’t have the combined test) but wouldn’t tell me when the appointment was booked for. It took 3 more days to get the letter through the post from then and I only got 4 days notice of the scan.

Teddybear45 · 05/06/2019 18:45

Booking appointment at 10 wks (booked at 7 weeks as that was when I was official released into NHS care). 12 week scan at 13 weeks.

ELM8 · 05/06/2019 22:42

Felt like ages waiting for that bloomin letter! In reality it was about 3 weeks after my booking appointment that the letter arrived, and scan was at 13 weeks exactly which was 2 weeks after the letter Smile

NapsAndTea · 05/06/2019 22:45

Congratulations! I'm 10+5 and have only have my booking in tomorrow 🙄 hoping I can book the 12 week scan tomorrow - not sure I can cope waiting for an appt in the post!

Triskaidekaphilia · 05/06/2019 23:02

I had my booking in at 12+1 on a friday, got the letter the following mon/tues and then had scan the monday after at 13+4. Originally the dates were less than that but the scan put me about 5 days forward, so I was just in time for my NT test.

BeckyG86 · 06/06/2019 07:06

I had an early scan when I was 7+4, which I paid for (had a very, very faint bit of blood and a little bit of discharge so took myself there, all was fine) and the sonographer said I was measuring about a week behind my dates, but said stick to my dates until the hospital dating scan so my dates say that I am 11+1 today. My hospital have a You Tube video about their maternity unit, which I watched, and they said around 13 weeks. so I am not majorly concerned that I haven’t heard anything yet but felt it was pushing it time wise to give notice for work. I will see if the letter arrives in today’s post, if not I will call the hospital again.

Congratulations everyone!

Thank you for your help everyone. I have still not received a letter but I have called the hospital and they have confirmed that a letter has been sent and I have my scan booked for 14th June at 3pm. Based on my LMP I will be 12+2 weeks then, but I think I will be about a week behind based on my early scan. We will see next week.

Panic over! Thank you for your help everyone!

At my hospital they call it a dating scan rather than a 12 week scan.
