Tall maternity clothes

Hi all,
I’m hoping some of you will be able to help. I’m currently 22 weeks pregnant with my first baby (due Oct) and am struggling to find maternity clothes that fit.
I’m about 6ft tall and was a pre-pregnancy size 10/12.
Pre pregnancy I always bought clothes from “tall” ranges i.e. ASOS or topshop (inside leg 34/36in).
I’m now discovering that there’s essentially no crossover between “tall” and “maternity” clothes. I managed to find some longer length leggings and other casual wear, but in terms of work wear I’m a bit stumped- I work in an environment where skirts need to be to the knee and cleavage isn’t appropriate, and I can’t find a decent pair of workwear trousers anywhere!
There must be some other women out there who are also tall and have had babies- where did you buy your clothes? Did you manage to find smartish trousers for work or did you wear dresses for the duration of your pregnancy?

Thank you!

No there isn’t anything. I wear 33 or 34 leg length trousers and struggle to find them in maternity ranges. I think there’s an assumption that all working women can wear leggings to work.

I’d suggest trying to upsize in a tall range and see if that gives you a good fit.

Weathergirl1 · 05/06/2019 16:35

Could you do a bump band over your existing trousers to get a bit longer out of them?

CVW88 · 05/06/2019 16:42

I’m afraid I’m way past that point weathergirl! I didn’t realise until I got pregnant that virtually everything I owned was either tight or high waisted or both! 😂
Teddy I’ll try the upsizing and see how I get on- fingers crossed!

Next - you can choose between small, regular and long in each size, including maternity wear.

Topshop has some things in a 34 inch inside leg. Otherwise yes dresses or cropped trousers through entire pregnancy.

Primark do extra long length leggings. Not maternity, but I just buy them in a larger size.

Mothercare had some jeans (black and indigo) in a 34 inside leg if that’s any use the last time I went into a store. I think they may have some workwear trousers in the same length?

CVW88 · 05/06/2019 18:03

Unfortunately next longer length is still way too short on me, but I’ll check out mother care and have a look on the top shop website!
Thank you for all your suggestions!

I used funmum - www.funmum.com/maternity-clothes-shop/category/tall-maternity-jeans-trousers

Not a huge range but definitely long enough.

@CVW88

I'm 22+3 weeks and 5ft10, inside leg is about 36 though! I've just bought some mom jeans from topshop, 34 inside leg was all they had, however had to go up a size (usually size 12) as they came up quite small around the hip area. The length feels okay but not quite long enough still.

Apart from that there's basically nothing! As you all have said, there's no crossover between maternity and tall clothes. Tried funmum for jeans also, they were the absolute perfect length, if anything too long, but the style was very outdated and felt frumpy for me (they however came up too large on the hips in a size 12 - can't win haha!)

I have ordered some over bump pyjama bottoms from boohoo, and while bearing in mind they were just pyjamas, the length wasn't bad at all! Maybe a possibility.

All I can say, whilst losing my mind trying to find jeans/trousers, is thank goodness it's summer and the weather is warm enough for dresses!!

How did you get on?
ASOS do a tall maternity range (and petite ) - definitely not loads of choice for workwear, but may be worth a look?

I will be watching this with interest as I am not as far along as you! I'm similar to you OP size wise.

In my last pregnancy I used ASOS tall maternity as mentioned here, and long tall sally (again limited range but they do have skinny jeans). Otherwise it's skirts and dresses. Think I had some skinny jeans from mamalicious that came in longer length too.

gg96cgp · 11/06/2019 20:36

Long tall Sally do maternity clothes such as leggings and trousers.

NuffingChora · 11/06/2019 20:42

I’m 5ft11 and also a pre-pregnancy 10/12.

  • Topshop maternity Jamie jeans in a 34 leg are PLENTY long enough - usually wear their 36 legs but the 34 is actually fine.
  • Some H&M maternity - particularly the shaping skinny jeans are also long enough
  • H&M have some great longline basic tank-style vests at the moment - much better than the maternity ones - I hate the ruching as it’s just baggy until really late on in pregnancy
  • Then an open shacket/oversized denim jacket/shirt over the top. From anywhere, sized up. Casual wear done.

Work trousers I agree are more tricky. To be honest I was much more comfortable in dresses anyway and I think they actually look smarter as maternity work tops/trousers tend to be really bloody unflattering 🙄.
