Hi all,

I was 12 weeks last Friday. Today I had a couple of bouts of intense stabbing pain on one side. Would only last a few seconds.

I'm feeling aches all round the front and lower back and had spotting just now.

Sitting here worried as my scan is only two days away. Had one at 6 & 7 weeks and they said everything looked ok...

Has anyone else had this at the same time in pregnancy? Didn't have bleeding with my other two. :(

Thanks,

One sad mumma.

Aches are fairly common at this stage! Everything is stretching. I've bled in all my successful pregnancies. It can be very worrying but if it's spotting and stays light chances are it's ok.

kamikazeee · 04/06/2019 18:30

Probably sounds so stupid, but it's just made me excessively sad about the whole situation I'm currently in. If I lost this baby, I have no family or friends to speak to about it. The baby's father hates me and doesn't even want to know. He'd probably jump for joy.

God damn hormones.

I'm so sorry you're having such a rough time. I too have had aches and pains throughout. I can't comment on the spotting. Are you due a 12 week scan any time soon or have you called your EPU? Keep posting on here for support. Hormones are tricky buggers.

TDLO · 04/06/2019 18:37

@kamikazeee hope you're doing ok. I've had a similar pain I think. I described it as a knitting needle shapely poking me on right side from front to back straight through horizontally and then other times diagonally. I've had this on and off, I think it's growing pains. Is that similar?
Re the bleeding I am not sure but I would defo call your local EPAS or maternity triage for advice. Chances are they'll tell you to see how things go and call back tomorrow. Some of the EPAS units are open to 7.30pm. I know plenty of ladies on here have had bleeds and still very healthily pregnant.

At the very least EPAS are lovely to talk to in my experience and always on hand to reassure you.

I would try to find someone to talk to so that you have someone to lean on, either way. Pregnancy brings all kinds of nerves and anxiety so someone to talk to is good. Keep us updated x

When is your scan?

It's so hard when you're having issues. I was a nervous wreck my whole last pregnancy. This one I've only had a few tiny episodes of bleeding so have tired to remind myself every day that if it's not contractions pain and period like bloody chances are it's ok.

I'd call your epu for a chat / advise if it's effecting you that badly. They're usually very good.

kamikazeee · 04/06/2019 18:42

I've got my 12 week scan on Thursday. My hospital is really useless. The EPU doesn't ever answer the phones, so the next thing would be to go and sit down A&E for five hours waiting.

I'm not bent over in pain anymore. The pains earlier I could have related to with the knitting needle thing. They would make me stop whatever I was doing and shout out in pain, but would only last seconds.

I just feel as though I'm about to have a period now.

I've been under a severe amount of stress the last few weeks. Today was the icing on the cake stress wise and then all of a sudden these pains started.

Ok first thing is to try and calm yourself down if you've been under stress and feeling anxious. Do you do any mindfulness/breathing exercises? They're not for everyone but definitely can help in slowing down adrenaline rush and bringing down heart rate.
Next thing is advice but if you can't speak to your EPU call your midwife first thing and take it from there.

It's so hard trying to stay calm, I'm giving you this advice when I know I'd find it difficult myself, but we need to try.

Hang in there, it's easy to go to worst case scenario in your head, but that's not always helpful or the reality x

kamikazeee · 04/06/2019 19:09

Trying to stay calm and be normal. I guess it's out of my hands regardless 🥺. Just sucks that this sort of thing is kinda like a waiting game.

OP posts:
TDLO · 04/06/2019 19:29

The waiting is the hardest bit x

NauseousMum · 04/06/2019 20:14

Strange question but how are your bowels? I had similar and they've put it down to my bowels, constipation and wind.

kamikazeee · 04/06/2019 21:02

@NauseousMum funny you should say that... been proper struggling to go 😂 literally only the last couple of days too

TDLO · 04/06/2019 22:26

Yes @NauseousMum !!
Now that you say that, when I went in for a reassurance scan due to my "knitting needle" pains. The sonographer said that the pain is more likely to do with my bowel rather than the baby directly. I didn't feel backed up but now I've concentrated on it, I'm not 'going' as often as I used to. So bowel issues could explain the pain. Can't believe I forgot about that to mention for you x

NauseousMum · 05/06/2019 09:33

Pregnancy really makes the bowel go sluggish, it could be backing up causing pain. Especially where the appendix is on right and ovary on the left.

Then gas builds up and you strain...if it comes and goes kamikazeee and TDLO it's probably that. I had it in all my pregnancies though worse in this one.

Be careful, it can become a real pita with haemarroids joining in later pregnancy. If you can hack prune juice and apricots they help.

TDLO · 05/06/2019 15:20

Thanks @NauseousMum I think that's exactly what it is. I have had apricots today and yesterday, total coincidence as I didn't realise they help with bowel issues. Will try the prune juice and see if that helps too.

NauseousMum · 05/06/2019 19:02

Good luck @TDLO. I hope the pain abates completely.

kamikazeee · 07/06/2019 07:04

Baby is fine :)
