Pain in hips in early pregnancy

My hips are so painful! I was lying in bed and couldn't get up as it was too painful to turn onto my side, I had to shuffle on my back down to the end of the bed so I could put my feet on the floor without having to turn onto my side. I'm in bed now (overseas so it's night time) and I briefly tried lying on my side but it was so painful, a really stabbing pain.

I have no idea if this could be pregnancy related because I'm only 9+4 so it seems a bit early to have pain like that when there's no baby weight or anything. Has anyone experienced similar? It's come on so suddenly and on both sides, no idea what it could be.

Could be pelvic girdle pain / SPD it's triggered by the pregnancy hormones not the weight of the baby/bump

Thanks Freyasmum, reading about that it sounds like perhaps it could be, although it's come on so quickly. I had a few twinges yesterday but the pain today is awful. Hopefully it settles down a bit.

It does sound like SPD. It can start in the first trimester. Unfortunately it is only likely to get worse. I would try and get some help now - such as physio. I think it would be beneficial to start looking into it as early as possible. I found it difficult to get any proper help and I had it quite severely.

I had this. I found a proper massive pregnancy pillow helped. I have one of those big U shaped ones that's as long as my body on either side. It's great and really helped with the pain. I don't get it as regularly or as severely now and I'm much further along with my pregnancy.

I have this too
Wasn’t sure if it was unrelated as I’m only 11+5

I’ve seen a physio for the same thing. It started for me on and off in first trimester and I did nothing about it until it got worse- is 33 weeks. Seeing a physio so far feels like it’s helped! It was to do with a muscle in the hip for me.
