I need help! What’s the best thing to use/do for constipation? I struggle anyway so add pregnancy in the mix and I’ve had it. Starting to feel awful now. Getting cramps and not sure if it’s baby related or I can’t poo :( xx

Laculose 15ml after your dinner each day. That stuff is magic and totally pregnancy safe! I can get very constipated due to the iron tablets I take and laculose has helped so much

roundligament · 04/06/2019 06:31

Have you got some glycerin suppositories you can try this am? They always help me

ConfusedChop · 04/06/2019 06:34

Prune juice!! I like you suffer from constipation frequently and when I was pregnant with each of my 3 DC it was considerably worse, so I feel for you, I really do. Prune juice was the only thing that worked for me. Don't get my wrong it can give you gas afterwards Grin but it will work within three hours. Hope it helps

Starlight84 · 04/06/2019 06:42

No suppositories. I have lactulose (can drink from the bottle usually and no affect 🙄) I’ll persevere though. I think I’ll buy prune juice later and pinch my nose 🤣🤣🤣 hate prunes but need to try something xx

Eat 2 mandarins every day and add linseed / flaxseed to your cereal/ smoothie!

Starlight84 · 04/06/2019 08:09

I already use flax seed! Thanks for suggestions! Willing to try anything right now xx

Make sure you’re drinking tons of water (2-3 litres a day minimum) as that will really hinder you if you’re dehydrated.

All-Bran for breakfast, lactulose and water! And off to the GP for something stronger and pregnancy safe if it doesn’t budge.

Starlight84 · 04/06/2019 08:34

Thank you @MustardScreams that will definitely be last resort. The dr wanted me to go hospital last time for an enema but my mum was in the waiting room who didn’t know I was pregnant at the time so I asked if nothing had happened can I go tomorrow but luckily it did!! It’s a right nightmare! I’ll give it a couple of days and if nothing proper happens I’ll go xx

Glass of prune juice on a empty stomach 👍

L00byL0u · 04/06/2019 09:07

I'm the same it's my first pregnancy and currently 5 weeks and so constipated. I also have I lBS and everything combined I feel like crap. I'm getting anxious about going out and to work as I never know when the stomach cramps are going to happen. I was in pain for about 45 minutes in the middle of the night. My gp told me to take lactulose 15 mls twice a day it's helped a little not a lot. I guess prune juice is next which I really don't like but I'm desperate. Then back to the gp if necessary.

Bluebell9 · 04/06/2019 09:11

I also find that having a low stool/box in front of the toilet to put my feet on helps. When you are standing or sitting, there is a kink in your colon to stop the poo coming out apparently and having your feet up so you are more in a squatting position helps.

Starlight84 · 04/06/2019 15:54

I already raise my feet 🙈 and lean back and forth! I’m so glad no one sees me! I’ve had no carbs today! Pepper and carrot sticks in houmous and fruit and yogurt for lunch! I will have lots of lovely veg for dinner. Xx

Carbs (and fibre) help bulk stools for a poo. If you’re not eating them no wonder you’re constipated!

WonkyDonk87 · 04/06/2019 16:36

Prune juice. It's vile but works. Tesco better than Sainsbury's.

Starlight84 · 04/06/2019 18:07

I have been eating very carb heavy which messes with my Ibs and makes me not go. I forgot prune juice in Sainsbury’s this eve. The one thing I went for x

@Starlight84 it sucks doesn't it I have IBS too and trying to eat the right food for IBS and constipation is difficult. One thing works for one but not the other. The doctor wouldn't prescribe me anything for IBS as she things it's just the pregnancy causing the constipation but I'm not sure. All I know is that I have had enough of being in pain on and off every day, sometimes so serve I'm rocking. I got prune juice today I think it's helped a bit but it's vile, thought I was going to vomit.

Cantthinkofausername1990 · 04/06/2019 18:36

Just logged on to ask the same question. I'm 38 weeks and it's been so bad for about the last week, can't wait to see the consultant in the morning to ask about it

Starlight84 · 04/06/2019 18:37

@L00byL0u it really does suck. I hope it eases soon. It does nothing for my paranoia. I’m having cramps and unsure if it’s ibs, not going properly or the fact I usually come on on the 4th! Xx

L00byL0u · 04/06/2019 18:48

@Starlight84 I'm sure it fine it's probably IBS or the pregnancy, plus as they say pregnant you symptoms often mimic early pregnancy. Although it's my first so I'm new to this.

My GP seems convinced mine is the pregnancy of my body stretching and hormones causing constipation. It does seem worse than normal so she probably is right. My IBS normally only flares up once every few months for about a week, whereas this has been going on for nearly 2 weeks now. I don't know what flares my IBS which doesn't help i think it's stress related.

Starlight84 · 04/06/2019 18:51

@L00byL0u yes stress can be a trigger. Certainly is for me. This is my third but big age gap so I don’t remember if I had pains before!! I’m 9 weeks tomorrow. Hoping I get a scan date through soon. I can’t bear it xx

Maybe try dried apricots? They always work for me. I’m 16 weeks and my digestive tract is still sooooo slow. I’ve used apricots before with great success, I think it’s time to try again!

Starlight84 · 05/06/2019 13:29

Oh brill! I’ll try apricots! Xx
