I'm roughly 7 weeks pregnant and woke up tonight feeling very sick, thought it might be morning sickness but now I have very watery diarreah.

I've messaged my mum as she said she felt sick earlier and she woke up to be sick too. My brother wasnt well on the weekend and my niece had diarreah.

The chances are more likely I've caught a bug than this just being morning sickness and dicky belly isn't it?:(

If you've been around them and they have also felt ill, it most likely is that you've caught the same bug. Try not to worry about it, I had food poisoning when pregnant and everything was fine.

Contraceptionismyfriend · 04/06/2019 01:29

Sounds like you've caught their bug.

Try and rest you'll be fine. Sip water and just do what you normally would when ill.

PregnantOnPurpose · 04/06/2019 01:30

Do you think it's better to starve the bug or will that be just as bad for baby?

I was always taught not to wat anything while having sickness and diarreah and just drink plenty of water. But I'm not sure not eating when pregnant is a good idea?

Thank you for replying, I cant sleep so it's nice to have the reassurance.

The baby will be absolutely fine. It will always take everything it needs.

You however are a person that requires nourishment. I'd sip water and if you feel up to it start with some toast.

Don't worry. Pregnancy is constant worry. Then they come out and it just gets worse.

How have you avoided a bug so long? Hopefully you'll kick it out soon.

Then baby will be born and bring every plague known to man through your door.

I have no idea, I'm a dental nurse so I see alot of germs every day. I think maybe my immune system is just strong from eating dirt as a child an stronger because of my job.

But this is no fun at all. I ahouldnt go to work tomorrow with d&v but my manager is going to go absolutely skitz.

Contraceptionismyfriend · 04/06/2019 01:41

Screw them!
If you're a dental nurse you really really can't be dealing with people's mouths with D&V.
Just check your policy for notifying your boss of sickness and self certify for a week.

I'm going to have to, I cant even leave my bathroom for 10 minutes before im back in there. This is truly horrendous and I dont wishing on my worst enemy Envy

I can tolerate a lot. But the runs really ruin everything. Hopefully it will end soon and you can at least get some rest.

TurquoiseTurtles · 04/06/2019 03:34

I'd listen to your body, if you can tolerate toast or plain biscuits, give it a go as you might feel a bit better. Really hope it passes soon.

Newbie21 · 04/06/2019 04:04

When you can stomach it - BRAT diet - Bananas, Rice, Apples/apple sauce and Toast. But as the others have said - sipping water. It's important you don't get dehydrated

Falafel19 · 04/06/2019 04:10

I rarely had d&v bugs until I was pregnant with my first, had 2 when pregnant with him, one at about 7 weeks like you. I'm more prone to them ever since and through second pregnancy etc, it's crap!

Baby won't be affected at all, so do whichever makes you feel best while you get through it, eat something bland and small or just stick with water. I would also advise being careful not to eat too much when you think the bug has passed, that's when they liked to reappear again with me during pregnancy!

PregnantOnPurpose · 04/06/2019 05:19

Thank you all for the advice, will try and get someone to grab me a pack of BRAT food.. as put food delivery didnt turn up yesterday!

I'm trying to sip water as I know I cant get dehydrated, but I'm really struggling to keep it down at all, just as soon as it hits my stomach it's back up.

Have you tried ice pops as they're a good way to keep hydrated taking in a little at a time. Really hope it's a 24 hour bug that goes soon.

PregnantOnPurpose · 04/06/2019 11:09

Good idea lavender, I should of had some coming in yesterdays shopping but they didnt turn up so maybe I'll get someone to pop me some round

@PregnantOnPurpose I feel your pain. I'm 31 weeks pregnant and I've spent all night throwing up and on the toilet Sad I haven't had D&V since I was a teenager so well over 15 years ago. It's awful
My mouth is so dry I just want to guzzle water and eat some watermelon but I'm really scared to do that. Just sipping small amounts of water at the moment in the hope that I get better in next few hours and can have a cup of tea or something other than water!!

PregnantOnPurpose · 04/06/2019 15:13

@gem58 I'm with you on the dry mouth, my chest is burning, I feel hot and cold, mouth like the Sahara.. I'm so thirsty but I'm trying to have little sips to keep it down :(

I hope you feel better soon x
