In absolute agony!!

I'm currently 31+2 and have had some back pain during my pregnancy, usually down the right side and going down my right leg and buttocks.

But today, I'm in absolute agony with my pain! It seems to have moved to the middle of my lower back and I'm in so much pain I'm in tears. I'm currently having a bath to see if this helps but I'm thinking if it carries on I'm not even sure I will be able to drive to work tomorrow Sad

Anyone got any advice or exercises I could try to ease this?

Is it sciatica?

HappyGirl86 · 02/06/2019 18:35

Ouch....sounds like sciatica or piriformis syndrome. If you google yoga exercises for these two conditions I found that it offered me some relief. I hope you feel better soon!

I think it might be sciatica. I'll have a look at some yoga moves.
Thing is I know what causes it, it's when I do the housework. Things like hoovering really affect it. Unfortunately there's no avoiding this!!

You can avoid hoovering

If its causing you pain. Cant your other half do it? Or failing that just leave it!

gem584848838 · 02/06/2019 19:03

I'm on my own so it's only me. I have left it two weeks but because I felt ok today I thought I'd do it and would be careful but it's not worked Sad
My sister has offered to do it for me but I hate having to rely on other people but looks like I'll have to! I do get the pain at other times but it's always at it's worse when I do the housework. Guess I'll just have to leave it longer and then get my sister to come round and do it.

See an osteopath! Sleep with a pillow between your knees. Get a tennis ball and stand against the wall to roll it over your lower back

Honestly the world wont end if you dont hoover for 9 weeks

Bunnybaubles · 02/06/2019 21:00

I had what you describe in my last pregnancy, physio didn't help much and I ended up on crutches around 30 weeks and barely able to walk. Midwife sent me to the doctor for co-codomol. It helped alot, especially at night when trying to sleep!
Have you asked to be referred for physio? It didn't do much for me but it did help some others in my group.

IVEgottheDECAF · 02/06/2019 21:04

I have spd, which is similar in ways. I waited 11 weeks for physio and have been signed off on sick since 24 weeks. I have codeine to take if i need it, physio told me to listen to my body and not do things that hurt e.g. hoover

gem584848838 · 02/06/2019 21:22

You are right, I do need to listen to my body. I'm trying to be superwoman especially because I'm on my own so trying to prove to everyone that I can do this and keep my house nice and tidy at the same time! But not really doing myself any favours.

I've not asked to be referred to physio more so because I know how long the waiting list is. But I am going to try and get a doctors appointment tomorrow and will ask to be referred.

In the meantime I've found some yoga moves online and just tried some and they have eased the pain a bit so going to try and do these daily

My midwife referred me, but it was for a group session held at the hospital specially for pregnant women so was seen within a couple of weeks. You could ask your midwife if there is something similar near you.

Go to an osteopath or deep tissue masseuse, and abandon the housework as much as you can particularly the hoovering. Be careful if pushing a trolley too, the sideways motion to turn it can really aggravate pelvic/sciatic problems.
