Chesty cold at 4 weeks 3 days, scared of MC

I've only just found out I'm pregnant. However I've also just got a horrible chesty cold and I'm scared it's going to make me run down and cause an MC so looking for reassurance. I've had 3 MCs last year so am quite paranoid about having MCs. I know it's early days. Is there anything I can do to make myself better? I had a paracetamol yesterday but would rather not this early in in case it hurts baby.

Op, having a cold will not cause a miscarriage. Nor will taking paracetamol ! I had severe norovirus at 9w and am sat feeding a 4 week old baby as I type. Rest, take your prenatal vitamins, eat and drink plenty and try to chill out x

Hi *Newbie? i think i remember you from the ttc/ infertility boards. Congratulations on your pregnancy, and so sorry to hear you've had a really hard time with mcs. I'm pregnant and had a chesty child followed by bronchitis. Paracetamol was fine to take, just not ibuprofen or any cold and flu drugs like sudafed etc. If you're worried you should visit your gp or even pharmacy to check, but try and get lots of rest so you're not too run down (not suggesting that could cause mc, just that you'll feel better). Hopefully someone with more knowledge will come along soon, feel better x

Chesty cold not child! 🙄

Newbie21 · 02/06/2019 05:54

Thanks both. I'll take paracetamol. I read somewhere (after googling!?!) that it's best to avoid even paracetamol in first trimester but I just want to feel better and stop being so paranoid! Would love to fast forward 8 weeks and get to that 12 week scan! (Although I'll be having a fair few extra scans along the way if I get that far!)

Google is not your friend! Stick to the NHS website.

Op I feel for you, pregnancy after recurrent mc is stress inducing as it is. But try to relax, bottom line is that it's not in our control. Try a humidifier to ease the symptoms, that will make you feel better. Lots of rest, watch a box set and drink plenty fluids x

I got flu in my first trimester, felt like absolute death. The dr told me to take paracetamol and use a salt spray for my nose. I'm 24 weeks now and everything is fine. Dont worry and focus on a bit of tlc

Thanks so much ladies. @marinova flu?! Poor you. I've never had it in my life touch wood so I can't imagine what that would be like when pregnant! I'm going to think of my cold being a good thing - body is focusing on protecting this embryo the immune system is down as a result and cold is a cold :-). (... and then the paracetamol wears off and I'm moaning at hubby again, haha)

Congratulations on your pregnancy! I had a cold around 20w and found it took longer to shift than before I was pregnant. Olbas oil on my pillow and Vicks rub on my chest and back helped me sleep better and during the day I tried to drink honey and lemon rather than taking paracetamol. Hope you have a speedy recovery! get lots of rest if you can
