I've been on citalopram since a teen, now 35 and nearly 8 weeks pregnant

No way Incan come off as it regulates my brain chemicals and Dr agrees

Does this mean it's impossible for me to breast feed?

I suffer with anxiety and depression and trying to stay stable is highest priority for baby's sake

Feeling alone on this

I was on sertraline throughout my pregnancy, doctor wasn't concerned.

At my hospital they keep you in for 12 or so hours I think or maybe 24? For observation to make sure baby doesn't have withdrawals, but mine was fine.

My doctor told me that it would be worse for me to try and come off them because of the withdrawal symptoms etc. If you are on a very very high dose they may recommend you try and lower it though.

I BF DD while on Sertraline, and was pregnant and am still BFing DS on Sertraline. Doctors were very very relaxed about the whole thing and, as PP said, felt it was a bigger risk to try and manage without.

The GP (who was amazing) referred me to the perinatal mental health team and I was able to talk through my concerns with a psychiatrist who was v reassuring about the risks (or lack of risks!) - might that be an option for you?

I'm on fluoxetine and I'm 36 weeks pregnant. With my first I came off my medication and ended up with horrendous antenatal depression. This time around I've seen an incredible antenatal mental health team. I've stayed on my meds and have even ended up increasing the dosage. The psychiatrist told me that usually there is no issue with bf on antidepressants. Fluoxetine above a certain dosage is the exception. I've gone above that now so I can't bf, but I feel it's way more important for me and baby that my mental health is good. The doctors will be able to check for you but it's likely that you'll still be able to bf if you want to. Good luck!
