I'm 10+4 and had my dating scan letter in the post! Two weeks and hopefully we'll get to meet our bean!! How long roughly does the appointment take, as I'm not sure what to ask for leave-wise from my job agency (Adecco)? I'm fairly sure my actual employer will be fine with it, but as I'm an agency worker I don't think my contract specifies any maternity leeway... Any insight will be really helpful. 💕

I had mine about a week and a half ago. We were probably in there for half a hour to 45 mins. As the after I had some blood tests done but that didnt take long.

Mine was super fast. From scan to blood test, I was in and out of the hospital within half an hour.

The sonographer made a comment that I was so quick! She said that often, it can take half an hour just to measure the baby but she was able to do mine within minutes. It depends how much it's moving around, position etc. Mine was lying really still, I think s/he was tired out and taking a nap because I'd been awake since 4am anxious/excited! Haha.

Plus if you have to sit in the queue for the blood clinic like we did (to take a sample) and it's busy, it can take longer.

Legally you're allowed the time of the appt plus travel each way. (Double check this, but I'm sure I've read this somewhere).

Maybe just give yourself extra time just in case. Better to be over compensate and be back early to work maybe?

Mine took over an hour & a half and I was seen immediately. The baby had just decided to fall asleep on its knees and so I had to jump around to get baby to move then run up and down a corridor and drink a sugary drink to get them into position and wait to be seen again.

The scan itself isn't long, but our little one was being difficult and they couldn't measure him. So they asked us to go for a walk around the hospital and come back half an hour later. All in all maybe took 1 and a half hours. Good luck for your scan, it's the best feeling! Xx

Scarletrose18 · 01/06/2019 13:55

Mine was almost 2 hours. The scan can be hard for them to get the right angle and measure then there soooo many questions and the bloods etc.(drink lots of water, i didnt and the midwife said that was why the scan was tricky 🙈)

Could you ask fir the 2 hours provisionally and then if it turns out to be less you could go back to work earlier.

All the best for the appointment! 🙂
