Going out of my mind. No yolk sac

Hi ladies

I am losing the plot. This is my third pregnancy, have a 2 year old DS. My LMP was 26th April, so I'm 5 weeks. My cycles are 25/26 days.

Went to EPAU today as have been spotting. They could only see a gestational sac, no yolk. Had my bloods done and the HCG was nearly 7000 and progesterone 39. Going back Sunday for more bloods and will have another scan in 2 weeks.

Should they have been able to see a yolk sac now? I am so worried. I had a MC this time last year so am going out of my mind with worry. Also cramping a bit this afternoon Sad

I had a scan at 5 weeks and no yolk was seen. 2 weeks later the baby was there with a heartbeat. I'm currently almost 16 weeks with that baby. It's difficult feeling like you're in limbo but hang in there.

Thank you. That's so reassuring. It's going to be a long two weeks!

Do they not tell you this at the scan? I would think they would say, something like, at this time it might be too early for a yok sac? I do know that for example at 6 weeks, if they can not detect the heart beat, that it can still be too early and they would say to come back and test in a week. That is the worst, the waiting. Crossing fingers for you. And as for spotting, sometimes this can happen. It happened to me during third pregnancy...still not sure why. I had a drop of blood when period was due as well and I thought okay maybe its a chemical...but thankfully it stopped. But left me with worry so I did loads of research and booked a 6 week scan. Every time I went to toilet I was checking. Now I have relaxed and am 10 weeks. It helps to try to keep yourself busy or distracted....reading a good book, watching movies etc to pass the time. It also helped when I researched to see that it can be normal to spot.

@Mamabear12 thank you. the Sonographer wasn't very helpful when I asked was it normal not to see a yolk sac, he said it was a 'circular argument' so I left feeling a bit 'wtf'. I am hoping my levels double on Sunday. Thankfully got a lot on the next two weeks so should be kept busy.

Ah, how frustrating. I have a feeling they can not say yes or no, for legal reasons. For example if they say yes, this can be normal....then something happens they can get into trouble. But they could at least clarify like, it can be too early to see the yok sac, as in some cases its not there at 5 weeks and appears by 6 or sometimes the dates are wrong etc. But it could be they were trained this way, not to say too much.

Ah, yes. I see where you're coming from, makes sense.

More brown spotting when I wipe. Hoping it's the irritation from the internal ultrasound yesterday. This is torture Sad

5 weeks is often too early to see a yolk sac, fingers crossed for good news in two weeks.

I was the same, went in with spotting thinking I was further along than I was (was really 5w) and just saw gestational sac, got told I was probably mc, next scan showed yolk sac, next showed fetal pole and finally

I’m now 16 weeks, but the waiting was agonizing!
