Varicocele - your experience

Hi all,

Can I ask has anybody’s partner had a varicocele (enlarged veins in scrotum). Did it cause any issues TTC? My partner has one and had appointment a couple of years ago - doctors just said to leave it as wasn’t causing him any issues. Been TTC 5 months now so starting to wonder if it could be affecting our chances? Am torn between knowing it is early days still but friends of mine are getting pregnant quicker than us so starting to wonder particularly as I have no obvious issues regarding ovulation etc. Thanks

Hi it’s definitely worth looking into privately (nhs have little knowledge on this/don’t go into detail as there aren’t very many studies on it). After my second miscarriage in 4 months we saw dr Ramsay - tests showed he had significant dna fragmentation which can be caused by a varicocele which he then had removed. We are waiting 3 months before trying again (takes 3 months on average to reproduce the swimmers). Hoping this was the cause and it’s 3rd time lucky for us. Hope you get answers you need xx
