Brown discharge

Hi all,

I'm currently 6 weeks pregnant and noticing some brown discharge on my underwear this morning. It's a very small amount, not even a teaspoon. It's dark brown, kind of looks like the kind of brown around the time of period. I have a 7 week dating scan booked in for end of next week but was wondering whether I should go to the gp to get discharge checked out?

Hey first off congratulations on yr pregnancy. In my experience brown discharge usually means old blood. I had it with all my pregnancies. I had two miscarriages previously and my last pregnancy produced my son. A midwife told me that no bleeding was 'normal' but common in pregnancy and is not always a sign of miscarriage but could be implantation bleeding or the other 101 reasons for bleeding. If it were me I would get scanned though how much they would be able to see is another thing as 6 weeks is early for a scan. Loads of hugs and fingers crossed for a sticky baba

Thank you so much for your response and your kind words. I think I will go back to the dr and will hopefully get some reassurance. X

How are you now @Anoushka1986

I saw my gp the other day. I was kind of hoping she would brush it off and say it wasn't a big deal, which she didn't. She said it's probably fine but that I should definitely get scanned at 7 weeks. So I've got that booked in for next Thursday. Fingers crossed x

🤞 hopefully everything fine. Has the bleeding stopped?

Anoushka1986 · 01/06/2019 04:18

Yes it's stopped. It was really only on the Tuesday and then the tiniest bit of colour on Thursday but now nothing...

I'm around 8 weeks & on Friday when wiping I got bright red blood once & everytime since it has been a brown colour (soz for tmi) contacted EPU on Fri advised to monitor over weekend, just wondering if I should contact again because I'm still having it but it's not as much as it was?

Anoushka1986 · 02/06/2019 05:21

Hi @TheStorkIsArriving80 if it were me I would contact them to let them know. It may be nothing to worry about but I think it's best to be careful. I hope everything goes ok for you x

Just some reassurance. I had brown tinged discharge for a week around 5-6 weeks

I went to the EPU at 6 weeks (where everything was fine). I was told by the midwife that about 80% pregnant women get small brown discharge around this time and it's perfectly normal. If it turns red then they need to be a bit more cautious

I had an 8 week scan too just to check and all was good (currently 9+3)

Try not to worry, especially as it's stopped now

Contacted the EPU and booked in for an early scan this Friday, still having it on wiping. The nurse was very reassuring but wanted me in to get checked to be sure. It's the longest wait ever. Fingers crossed for you @Anoushka1986 🤞

@TheStorkIsArriving80 how did the scan go?

@Anoushka1986 everything is fine thank you, although I am measuring only about 6 weeks not 9 that I thought. I must have my dates mixed up or something. Seen my little beans heart flickering away so all good. Had to have internal scan because I'm less than what I thought as couldn't see anything on external scan...so naturally my heart sank but so relieved when they found something on second option. How are you doing, hope everything has settled for you? 😊

Anoushka1986 · 09/06/2019 10:19

Oh I'm so glad it worked out for you, that would have been awful not seeing anything at first! My scan went fine too, was such a relief to see that heart flickering and everything is looking good!
