Pain at 4/5 weeks

Hi all,

Since about 4 weeks I've been having some really uncomfortable pains, almost a mix of period pains/upset tummy pains/trapped won't. I had it just after 4 weeks and now I'm 5 weeks 2 days and I have had then a couple of times throughout the past week. They only last on and off for about 30 mins and it's not every day but sometimes I can have them in the afternoon then again in early evening. It also comes with a little back pain.

No signs of blood and I haven't been going to the toilet that regular (sorry if tmi) so not sure if it is a mix of growing pains and constipation. But it's just quite uncomfortable and it's my first pregnancy so just on edge I guess that it could be signs of something bad.

Any help of previous experience of this would be useful.

I’m 5 weeks and literally the exact same thing! It’s my first too and also worrying. But the cramps do feel more ‘bowel’ like than period cramps but still making me worry. Very comfortable if it’s not bloating and constipation it’s the pain :( xx

Catarinah · 27/05/2019 20:04

Hi @MrsMck18 I am also 5 weeks +2 days today :) and this is also our first pregnancy. I am experiencing the exact same symptoms and am in the bath to ease the discomfort as I type! If feels like quite intense period pains in my lower abdomen and lower back which also comes and goes and lasts about 20-30 minutes. My midwife said it's normal and it's the uterus starting to stretch to make room. She advised not to take ibuprofen and to take paracetamol (I only take 1 x 500mg if it gets pretty bad)

Catarinah · 27/05/2019 20:05

Oh and to add, these started for me when I was ovulating and have come and gone since, and I am also very bloated, constipated and lethargic x

Passthecherrycoke · 27/05/2019 20:08

It’s probably streching Pain. In the early days your uterus stretches as big as it’ll need to be at the end. Some women have more pain with this than others. My first was bad (like very bad period pains, they took my breath away) but my second was hideous- honestly if I hadn’t been pregnant I would’ve suspected appendicitis. I had a scan at 6 weeks because they were so awful. All was fine and I’m 40 weeks now x

Thank you all so much for your responses. It's good to know I'm not the only one. I'm hoping it's just wind/constipation but it's always so hard not to get really worried!

What a relief to read this feed! I'm 6 weeks and it just feels like a constant period. Glad to see this is normal. Congrats ladies! Grin

I'm glad I've found this thread, I have these pains too and was a little worried in case something wasn't right. Feeling a little relieved now Smile

ForTheLoveOfDoughnuts · 28/05/2019 12:59

I had horrible constipation (who am I kidding, still have it now at 34 weeks!) in early pregnancy. Literally had me on the floor at points with terrible trapped wind. Was prescribed lactulose. Really wasn't pleasant. But it did the trick.

Teddybear45 · 28/05/2019 13:04

I was in agony from 4 weeks to 11 weeks. Back ache, cramps, spotting, you name it. However I always kept a medical professional updated — and I was given a 7 week viability scan so I knew the baby was okay during the worst of it.

Catarinah · 28/05/2019 23:13

I've actually had no pain today and now that's making me worry!

L0205 · 29/05/2019 13:54

I'm 5 weeks and 4 days today and I found out 2 days ago that I'm pregnant. On the same night I found out, I was drinking a lot of water and I literally had to run to my house to go toilet as k thought I was gonna pee in my pants! Right after I finished, I got this really bad cramp which lasted about 10 mins. I wouldn't say it was severe but it was very strong, like a stabbing kind or pain and then it felt like trapped wind. There was no blood or discharge at all. I told my bf and we started driving to the hospital but the pain disappeared so I told him to turn around and we went home. I've not felt strong cramps since, only very mild ones every now and then, so I'm a little worried but still no blood or signs of MC.
I really hope everything is fine but I'm really stressing over it :(

I have these pains constantly I'm 6weeks 6day they last about 30mins most of the time, has anyone else experienced pain under ribs? Only on one side? That's now stopped but I had it for around two weeks straight usually for about 15/20mins?

L00byL0u · 30/05/2019 09:02

I'm 4 + 4 and I've had cramps on and off for over a week that last 20-30 mins and so bad sometimes I'm sitting on the floor rocking as it helps. Spoke to my gp who advised it's normal but still worries me.

Catarinah · 01/06/2019 15:16

I think I've passed the cramp phase now? I'm 6 weeks today and just feel generally unwell today, no energy, no appetite, tired, headache... but no vomiting, yet... How are you all feeling?

L00byL0u · 01/06/2019 16:01

I'm still having cramps, I'm 5 weeks tomorrow. I'm going to go back to the gp next week see if I can get an early scan just to put my mind at ease. I've been on the floor rocking at times due to pain.
I do worry sometimes nothing is there and it's just my imagination because I have no other symptoms. I've done a million tests though!!

Esmerelda123 · 01/06/2019 18:44

I feel like mine are due to my bowel slowing down but then I worry it’s something else. I got my midwife referral today and it’s not til July when I’ll be 13 weeks. Feel a bit deflated cus id like to check with someone it’s all okay, my GP literally printed me information and sent me on my way.

jayde21 · 01/06/2019 19:23

@Catarinah I'm 7weeks2days and I'm still having some aches but not as often, I'm also like you just feeling unwell, my sickness has been really bad and docs have had to prescribe me anti sickness medication😭 I hope that settles down so I can enjoy my pregnancy🤰🏻

Catarinah · 01/06/2019 19:41

@jayde21 i actually haven't vomited yet but have been heaving. i have my first appointment with a midwife on the 11th, will I know when my 12 week scan is on this day?

jenn88 · 01/06/2019 22:42

I'm 6 weeks tomorrow!! I've had cramps and diarrhoea for just over a week!!! The cramps have been so bad I've been crying...... 🙈 a combination of pain, frustration, emotions and tiredness! It wakes me most nights!!!! I've been relying on hot water bottles!! I've been told it's normal and to stay hydrated!! Pregnancy is not glamorous!!!!!! I hope yours all clears up soon and we all get to the 2nd trimester when we can relax and bloom!!!!!!!

L00byL0u · 02/06/2019 06:43

It's nice to know I'm not the only one with bad pain as it has been really worrying me. Mine is more due to constipation and have been told to take lactulose but not sure it's helped that much. I'm 5 weeks today!
