Sharp pains in right lower abdomen (18 weeks)

Hi everyone! Heads up this is a little TMI!

I had a scan at 16 weeks and everything with little one was perfect.

I've had pretty terrible constipation through the whole pregnancy. I'm taking lactulose and trying to eat lots of fruit and veg which helps some but isn't totally solving the problem.

When I stood up about 5 minutes ago, I had a bad pain that sort of extends from my lower abdomen on the right (kind of where the large intestine or ovaries may be) and in to my lower back. I could hardly walk for about 2 minutes. Went to the loo and nothing (sigh). I'm laying down now and the pain has eased a bit.

I don't know if I need to nip to the antenatal clinic and wait to be seen or if this is just linked to my constipation?? Has anyone else had a pain like this? I had the same thing happen last week but much worse but it totally eased off after about 10 or so minutes. I just don't know what it is or what to do. I don't think it's related to the baby but what if it is??

Thanks xxx

This could be round ligament pain. I had it in my second trimester - a sharp pain in my lower abdomen, particularly when sitting up or turning over. can't hurt to call your midwife if you're worried but if it's a ligament style pain (sharp) rather than a cramp style pain, I would try not to worry.

It does sound like round ligament pain, it's surprisingly painful!

It might be worth a trip to the GP about the constipation, the GP prescribed me Laxido which solved the problem for me.

It'll be round ligament pain. Used to bring me to my knees it did. A support belt helps.

But as always, if you're worried seek advice.

Thanks everyone! I do think it must be round ligament pain as it is always the right side and it hurts when I stand up. Bump has grown a lot lately as well so it makes sense that the pain would start now.... It's a right pain!
