7+3 spotting

I am currently 7+3 with my first pregnancy after a mmc last April.

On Saturday morning I woke up and discovered I had started bleeding. There was nothing in my underwear or in the toilet but a fairly significant amount of pinkish blood when I wiped but no pain at all. I called the EPU and based on the fact I miscarried last year they brought me in for a scan. The scan showed that baby is the correct size for the dates (7+1 on Saturday and measuring 10mm) and had a strong heartbeat. The midwife wasn't sure why I had bled but suspected implantation bleeding or a haematoma. I went home and had no more bleeding until yesterday morning when I had some very light pink spotting but it stopped in the afternoon. I have just been to the toilet this morning and the light spotting has returned.

I know that the fact I have seen a strong heartbeat is a good sign and that my spotting is only light but I'm still nervous about miscarrying again. Do you think I should call and try and get back to the EPU?

Does anyone have any advice at all? I'm still spotting this morning.

I’m presuming at such an early point you’ve not met your midwife yet so advice would be to contact the GP surgery and get seen by them or ask the EPU to see you again.

Sorry you're having a stressful time OP, the sight of blood when pregnant is horrible. Did the EPU give you their direct contact info? If so I think you should get back in touch, they might rescan you, or maybe take your bloods. If not, you'll have lost nothing and will get some advice at least. Good luck x

I've had this as well. Brown blood with clots at 6+3 but scan showed correct size with heartbeat. I basically haven't stopped spotting/bleeding since then and had another scan at 8+2 which showed perfect growth and there was still a heartbeat so it's not necessarily a bad sign to have some blood.

I'm getting somewhat used to the bleeding now and as long as it doesn't get heavier and I don't get cramps I'm assuming everything is ok.

I know it's hard but I'd try and ride it out for a couple of weeks if you can (as long as the bleeding doesn't get heavier or crampy). The scan is an encouraging sign for sure so just try and keep that in mind, your baby was fine even though you'd been bleeding so hopefully that won't change.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I called the EPU and they said that there was no sign of why I was bleeding on my scan on Saturday and everything looked fine so they reckon the spotting will tail off in the next few days but to call back if it gets any heavier. Feeling a bit reassured.

I've had bleeding in both my pregnancies - one was a MMC and I am 32 weeks today with the other - I had spotting like you described around the same time in both which lasted about a week - for me the only difference between the two bleeds was one scan showed the baby was almost two weeks behind my LMP and in this pregnancy the dates were all perfect - a heartbeat and correct dates is a positive sign - just to say as well I had a one day bleed a few weeks later but 12 week scan was perfect, as was 20 weeks etc... It's really hard and the anxiety never really goes, but just take it day by day, and good luck, it all sounds very normal and positive!
