How long does it take to conceive after coming off the pill? And for periods to regulate?

I know its different for everyone but just wondering. I came off the pill last september. First af was 3 months later. Ive had 4 cycles 2x 39 days, 1x 41 days, latest one was 57 days. Will the regulate? I cant remember what my cycles were like before i started the pill as it was a long time ago!

As you say it's different for everyone, but for me my cycles went straight back to normal 28-30 day cycles whenever I came off it and I fell pregnant straight away twice. I think the hormones leave your body very quickly once you stop, but it might take your body a while to get back into a rhythm.

I got pregnant immediately coming off the pill very end July last year. Unfortunately I ended up with a missed miscarriage / blighted ovum so by the time I had my first period after surgical management it was November. My December cycle came around about 26/27 days and then I conceived in January.

I vaguely recall when TTC my first i had a spell a few months in from coming off the pill where my cycle was short/long/short before regulating so you will maybe see it settling down soon.

Pambo81 · 26/05/2019 23:07

Mine never settled down and my periods ranged from 28 days to 90 days each cycle. Ended up getting an ovusense in the end as it was impossible to tell when i was ovulating due to the large fluctuations

The first time I came off the pill (not to ttc, for other reasons), by month 4 I still hadn't had a period. I went back onto a different pill.

The second time I came off the pill I came off some time in the December (cant remember exactly when) and I had a period by the end of Jan

It will be different for everyone. I came off the pill, has the withdrawal bleed and then had a reasonably regular cycle. It wasnt literally perfect to the day but they were all well within normal ranges and the actual periods were similar in amount and symptoms etc as the withdrawal bleeds whilst on the pill. I got pregnant on my 4th cycle. I had been on the pill continuously for 12 years.

I was on the pill for years and conceived straight away, the month after I stopped taking it. This was the case with my second pregnancy too. This was in the 1980’s when there wasn’t much advice about letting your body get back to normal before trying to conceive.

Like you've said everyone is different, but I came off the pill and still had a few left (TTC) had my withdrawal bleed a week later and then 28 ish days from that had my first period and then the next cycle got pregnant, ended in a miscarriage but got pregnant again the next cycle and am now 8+2 weeks PG :) so as far as regulating periods I'm not much help but you can definitely get pregnant pretty quickly!

Loulabelle0 · 27/05/2019 05:48

As all have said it's very different for everyone!
I came off the pill, had my withdrawal bleed then fell pregnant straight away without a normal period in between. I did however have a rather long bleed, which at the time I thought was just a light period - scans proved it to be an implantation bleed and I'm 16 weeks pregnant tomorrow Grin

I came off the pill on 1st of January. Had my period 27 days later and then every 27 days. I conceived after 3 months. However, everyone's different. Did you have regular periods before going on the pill?

stucknoue · 27/05/2019 06:16

I got pg on the pill (food poisoning) but everyone is different. As it's been 6 months it's worth going to the gp

NannyRed · 27/05/2019 06:16

I worked in medicine for 20 years. The pill stops working as soon as you stop taking it, so within a month you are back to ‘normal’

It doesn’t have a cumulative effect, it doesn’t take any longer to become fertile if you took it for twenty years as opposed to three months.

Wallywobbles · 27/05/2019 06:27

Stopped pill August. Got pregnant in January though actually using one of the piss stick contraception methods.

Pipandmum · 27/05/2019 06:50

Came off pill and was pregnant within four months with both kids. I think periods were regular (it was a while ago as youngest is now 14).

Andersonx3 · 27/05/2019 07:34

I googled this religiously when I came off the pill TTC - yes its different for everyone but here's my experience.

I had been on the pill for over 10 years. Had my last 7 day break & bleed over New Years just gone, didn't take any more pills, had a period 1st Feb, another 27th Feb then found out I was pregnant around the 24th of March! I'm now almost 13 weeks and due my scan on Thursday!

Good luck, it doesn't always take as long as you'd imagine! Thanks

mrsk28 · 27/05/2019 07:39

I stopped the pill and conceived on the 3rd cycle after. Cycles varied in length from 27-37 days so I used OPK's to time ovulation on the cycle I conceived.

Best of luck, I know it can be easy to feel impatient about it at the time but enjoy this time with your DP 😊

Newyearsameoldshit · 27/05/2019 09:07

First time I came off the pill I got a proper period after 4 weeks then got pregnant that cycle.

Second time cycles were initially a bit short (potentially age related) and I was pregnant after 6 months.

Luckylola12 · 27/05/2019 11:19

Thanks all for sharing your stories! This af is very very heavy! Did any if you find this aswell? Dont know if its because it was a 57 day cycle? Ive got no pain with it so i guess thats good.

I came off my pill in July last year, period never returned. After 3 months I went for blood tests which came back normal and by end of October I was pregnant!

AllRainbows · 29/05/2019 11:03

Before we started ttc I heard so many horror stories about coming off the pill and ttc. I was worried it would take so long. I was on cerazette for 8 years with no periods and had no idea of my cycles as a result. Came off the pill and 2 weeks later I conceived didn't even get a period. I was using ovulation tests and got a positive exactly 2 weeks after coming off the pill and conceived that day. I am now nearly 16 weeks pregnant.
