Lactulose is fine to take when pregnant, I needed it with both of mine. It’s also great to take post giving birth (you don’t want to be pushing too hard to have a bowel movement post giving birth).

GP prescribed Laxido for me when I was pregnant, baby now born and no ill effects!

Prune juice

Lactulose doesn’t cut it for me unfortunately. Prune juice is good if you can stomach it and if I’m absolutely desperate, (haven’t been in days, really uncomfortable job) it’s glycerin suppositories but ask your pharmacist about these first. They worked in 15 minutes one horrible Sunday!

Lactulose is my best friend! Can buy it over the counter at boots. As someone else said though, if you've been constipated for a few days already, get some suppositories to clear it out although lactulose does a good enough job for me.

I also make sure I have a glass of orange juice a day and have some dried apricots to keep things moving (I HATE prunes).
