Hi mumsnet!

I am 13+3 with my first beautiful bubba and I’ve been pretty lucky with morning sickness etc compared to others. However, I have had Diarrhea at least once a week and sometimes much more often since about week 6. (Warning this could get graphic!!!!)

I have noticed that it seems to be between 9-24 hours after eating certain things (example tiger bread, crumpets, a flapjack all seem to have triggered it) and the only thing they all have in common is wheat flour. Yesterday I had a flapjack at breakfast time, and about 6pm felt that familiar pain, nearly didn’t make it to the loo! And when I did, I actually recognised the flapjack oats in the toilet bowl Blush disgusting!!!!!!!

I am really worried that baby might not be getting the nutrients it needs if food is passing through me like that, and also worried as I don’t know if it’s a wheat sensitivity, gluten intolerance, celiac etc. It’s only started since I’m pregnant!!

Questions:
Has anyone else had a sudden allergy or sensitivity come on during pregnancy?

Any thoughts on if his could affect baby? (I am staying hydrated)

Thoughts on what I can and can’t eat? I seem to be ok with whole wheat like Weetabix.

I’ve called my midwife a few times she just keeps saying it’s hormones. I’m going to get a doctors appointment on Tuesday. I’ve also been getting aching in my tummy when I need to pee and struggling to get going, but dip sticks coming up negative. I think I need some TLC Sad

Well, if it’s a coeliac thing, you need to keep eating the bad things until you can have the test, unless medical advice is that you stop, otherwise the test won’t work - it measures damage caused by the body reacting to gluten.

Having said that, if you can handle Weetabix, chances are you’re ok. Could the problem instead be simple carbohydrates in the morning? I’ve found that if I have actual sugar with my breakfast, things go wrong. It’s a pregnancy thing for me - I can normally get away with chocolate for breakfast! Maybe your body takes a while before it can handle things in the morning?

Good luck! Working out what you can eat in pregnancy is hard enough without something like this starting!

if you’re okay with weetabix then it’s not wheat related but instead could be because you’re eating too much. Try eating smaller portions more often (especially in the morning).

Thanks both!
I don’t think it’s portion related as I can only manage much smaller portions now anyway but good shout

Also said that cravings led to ice cream for breakfast recently so I don’t think it’s sugar related 😂
And that it’s good to know about weetabix... maybe it’s an additive thing? So hard to figure out :(
