Just had a growth scan and baby is estimated at 6 pounds at 35 weeks. Just curious if anyone else had a similar fetal weight what kind of weight baby came out at full term?

My DC measured similar but as they were breach and they said that babies can measure bigger because they can't get an accurate reading in that position? My DC then came out around 7.3 which was over a pound smaller than they had predicted

Nephew came out almost 10 pounds.

7 pounds sounds good but 10 pounds sounds terrifying! Trying got a VBAC so a large baby makes me nervous!

I was having extra scans due to short femurs and was told at around 38 weeks that baby would be about 5lb full term (I did not believe this), he arrived at 39 weeks a lovely chubby 7lb 2oz.
I took all measurements and estimates with a pinch of salt. His legs were also a perfect size.

At 36 weeks she was 6.2 pounds on the scan she was born 2 weeks later 8 LB 9! Glad I was induced 😂

My last baby was 5 lb 13oz at a growth scan at 36 weeks and was 7lb 7 oz when he was born at 39+5.

Mikewazowskismrs · 24/05/2019 19:24

Mine was estimated at 6.5lbs at 34 weeks and 8lbs at 38. I had him on Tuesday at 39 + 5 and he was 8lb 2.

It all seems so mixed. Thank you these are really interesting. I'm really paranoid now that I've maybe eaten too much sugar etc that's going to make a big baby...! Is the baby's size down to what you eat from now on eg if I eat too much cake will it make him even bigger or is it just down to how much they need to put on each week before due date and every baby is just different sizes?

I was told they put on half a pound a week for the last few weeks. So going with that yours would be 8lb 5oz at 40 weeks.
My first measured 6lb at 31 week scan, was born 38 weeks 9lb 6oz so they were very accurate there.
This pregnancy they said he was 5lb at 31 weeks, 8lb at 36 weeks so a little over half a pound going on a week now too. So I'm being told another half a pound a week will mean he's 10lb at 40 weeks

HJWT · 25/05/2019 16:23

@pancakes22 No that only happens if you have gestational diabetes... x

My son was estimated 6lbs 1oz at his 35 week scan. He was 8lbs 6oz at birth! He's almost 8 weeks old now and is almost 12lbs already :)

pancakes22 · 25/05/2019 18:15

@Cantthinkofausername1990 that's really interesting and does put it more in perspective having that kind of calculation.

@HJWT thank you, I don't have GD so that helps relieve some of my guilt! I will enjoy having cake more at my baby shower on Monday knowing it won't make him any bigger!

Looks like it's just a case of what will be will be!

The weight estimates are very approximate indeed. Dc2 was estimated at 10.5 lb but even at the time the obstetrician said it can be out by 2lb either way as it's hard to get clear views in the 3rd trimester.

He was a very average, ordinary 8lb 7 Oz at exactly 38 weeks though would obviously have been a lb or so more at full term.
