1st scan - Fetal pole too small? :(

Hi ladies

I had my first scan today and they measured the sac and the fetal pole. I was told it is too small measuring at 2.7mm when its should be about 7mm at this point.

This is an IVF pregnancy so they've said to me I am 7 weeks 3 days however when I went to the hospital last week they said that I am 6 weeks 5 days (today) so there is about a week in difference when in comes to the dates.

I have been scheduled in to go in next week for another scan. They said to prepare for the worst but not to worry to much (!).

Can anyone share any experiences or tell me anything more.

Thank you!

At my ivf clinic they said up to 5 days difference is okay if there’s no heartbeat. But if a heartbeat is found then provided it meets a minimum (depends on the age of the embryo) then sizing shouldn’t matter. Apparently even 5 day blastocysts have been known to ‘hibernate’ in the womb prior or post implantation.

At my 7 week scan I dated a few days behind. Consultant dismissed it as he said it can't be accurate at that stage. At all future scans baby has measured exactly right as to my ivf dates.
