Pregnant after 3 consecutive miscarriages

Hi all.

I am 7.2 weeks pregnant with my 4th pregnancy after 3 consecutive miscarriages (one of which was MMC discovered at 12 week scan). I saw my midwife today for my booking in appointment and asked for an early scan but she said no as it wasn't something she could arrange or request. I have an appointment next week with the recurrent miscarriage unit at my local hospital. Do you think they will agree an early scan? I am so anxious and would rather know sooner than later if something is wrong with this pregnancy too. x

Hi lovely, I have just had my third consecutive MC, and before the loss this time I was offered an early (7 week) scan on the NHS. My GP arranged it directly with the EPU; could you go to your GP? I just expressed similar concerns/anxiety and she arranged it right away.

Good luck and fingers crossed for a happy healthy pregnancy x

kittycat01 · 21/05/2019 20:44

@MrsEG I'm so sorry to hear about your third loss. It's so shit isn't it!?

Thank you- I will call my GP tomorrow morning and see if they will do that for me.

Good luck with the future. x

Yes, very shit is the right way of putting it! Also waiting for our referral to the recurrent MC clinic. You give me hope it can still happen!

Yes, try your GP, mine was fantastic. Failing that you could always book an early reassurance scan privately - if my GP hadn’t sorted mine I was going to go that route. Best of luck :)

I’m in the same boat as you kittycat, 4th pregnancy after 3 consecutive losses. I was referred to a recurrent mc clinic and have been lucky enough to get weekly scans so I would have definitely thought they would offer you a scan as would your local EPU.
Hope you are doing ok, it’s such a stressful time xx

kittycat01 · 21/05/2019 22:44

@K0013 I'm so sorry to hear about your losses but I have my fingers crossed for you for this pregnancy.

How far along are you? Did the recurrent miscarriage unit offer you the scans when you told them you're pregnant again or did you have to ask? The EPU were terrible with me after my surgical management for a MMC and wouldn't scan me after, even though I knew there was retained product and eventually I passed it after being in agony and having contractions for 5 days on and off, so I feel that if I go to them requesting an early scan they'll just say no and piss me off again! x

Hello ladies

I've just had my 3rd consecutive mc confirmed yday :( I knew 11 days ago as the 8 scan week measured 5+ weeks and yday I should have been 9+2 but there had only been slow progression.
My private consultant has taken a look and isn't happy for me to have the miscarriage managed yet, he wants me to wait another week and I don't know why when we have agreed it's not viable.
I really don't know what to do, I was on progesterone too so have no bleeding or cramping. When I told him that he said 'don't rush this process' - he's meant to be very good at what he does, do I just believe he's doing the right thing by me?

@kittycat01 you definitely should be entitled to a early scan. I was offered them by my nhs consultant after my 1st mc and why an earth can't the midwife arrange it? Surely that's part of her job? They really piss me off, I refused to see one this time as they really did neglect me during my 2nd mc in Dec/Jan it was awful. Ring your gp tomorrow and tell them how it's causing you anxiety and stress xx

K0013 · 22/05/2019 17:46

@kittycat01 that really is awful that you were treated this way by the EPU. I was told by the recurrent mc consultant to contact my local EPU when I became pregnant again so I could go to the consultant for weekly scans. I am about 10 weeks now. I’m sorry you’ve had such crap support so far and hope your phone call today has been more successful.
@MinAngel I’m so sorry for your losses. It’s difficult when we don’t quite understand what’s going on but I would hope that he knows what he is doing. If you can perhaps get in contact with him again to go through things with you until you are clear, it’s so hard to take in medical speak when you are going through such a hard time hugs

moomin11 · 22/05/2019 19:22

I hope you manage to get an early scan kittycat01 either through your GP or the miscarriage unit. I'm pregnant following an ectopic and a miscarriage, also had 2 miscarriages before my daughter. It's a stressful time. So sorry for your losses MinAngel and MrsEG hope you have lots of support Flowers

MinAngel · 22/05/2019 21:38

@K0013 I did call him today and spoke to his secretary and just explained how I was feeling. She called bk to say both the consultant and the consultant he has liaised with at Bham Women's Hospital think I should wait for a repeat scan. On top of that my nhs consultant has suggested the same. I'm going to try and get a repeat scan on Friday and book in for the erpc for Tuesday. He has assured me that the pregnancy will be sent away for genetic testing.
@moomin11 thank you, I hope your pregnancy goes well xx

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 23/05/2019 12:17

Hi, I had 3 mcs now pregnant again, my local EPU saw me for scans at 6 weeks & 9 weeks. They had also sent the tissue from 3rd mc for genetic testing, they also referred me to recurrent mc clinic but I was pregnant again before I was able to attend. I'm now 21 weeks but this time looking like placental insufficiency.... fingers crossed it keeps growing enough.

MinAngel · 23/05/2019 14:49

@NoIDontWatchLoveIsland

So sorry for your losses. I hope your pregnancy goes well this time and that your getting some extra care and support.
My consultant has told me I can't try again until he's completed all his investigations and he doesn't know how long that will take. I'm relieved in a way as I won't be putting that pressure on myself but deflated because I know I'm not having a baby any time soon. Just a crap situation! I've been and had a 90min facial which was just what I needed xx

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 23/05/2019 16:52

Take care of yourself min. For what it's worth it's probably a good idea to take his advice.... I didn't, got pregnant again before having all the tests, perhaps I could have avoided the placenta problems if they had done all the checks Sad. You will get there x

Kikina · 08/06/2019 21:40

Hi op, your post was exactly me, every detail. I shamelessly cried at a doctor until he was scared and I got an early scan. It was fine but if I'm honest didn't really help as I remained a nervous wreck, almost wishing for a MC because I was so sure I was going to lose the baby and just wanted the agony over ASAP.

Bump turned into healthy, bouncy bundle of joy, DS, who is the light of my life and just turned 2. He is worth every drop of anxiety 100 times over. Wishing you good luck.

Huncamuncaa · 19/06/2019 11:44

You should be able to get an early scan. They normally call it a reassurance scan at 8 weeks. Get GP to refer you. Probably just need to go down different channel and be on the hospitals system.

I had 4 miscarriages and was under a consultant before getting pregnant again. Was scanned every 2 weeks from 8 weeks (although my case is complicated). Didnt bother with contacting midwife service until 10 weeks as didnt see the point with amount of hospital appointments I had.

Now 29 weeks. It can happen. Try not to worry.

Marmaladegin · 02/08/2019 22:08

Hmmm I would regrettably advocate crying at someone until an early scan is agreed.

I had 4 MC (following 2 trouble-free pregnancies) and went through hell. Dc 3 is now 2 and worth every moment of pain. Hang in there!

Mumof2119 · 25/08/2019 20:26

Hi I have the marina coil fitted 9years ago But I’m getting signs of pregnancy I have done a test which showed I think as positive within the timescale but turned negative after the time scale. Am I pregnant?
