Gestational sac 2mm...?

Afternoon,

I’ve had a scan this morning - I’m 5+3 - and they saw what they thought could be a gestational sac but it was 2x2mm. That seems a bit small for the gestation I am... I’ve read and heard it should be 10mm by now.

Is all hope lost or is it still possible that everything is ok? It’s an IVF pregnancy so querying ovulation is out of the window as I know exactly how many weeks and days I am. Thank you.

americanpregnancy.org/pregnancy-complications/early-fetal-development/

This reference describes the foetal pole at 5-6w as being 2-4mm, and there should be some variation on the size that can be accurately detected on US at this early stage.

I would hope that your medical team would have at least given you a little indication of warming if they weren’t confident, rather than allow you to believe it is ok until next scan, so if you didn’t get that take it as a positive sign.

I suspect you’re just over-googling, and that is quite understandable. Try not to panic-we’re pregnant for a loooooooong time, and good luck 😊

Thank you Sessy19 - my medical team haven’t really said anything, just that it might be a gestational sac but could also be a pocket of fluid too? Hmm I’ve has my hCG levels rechecked today too. No yolk sac was seen, not foetal pole, it was basically just a 2mm round black circle.

I’m hoping it’s nothing to worry about but I’ve been in limbo land before with my last pregnancy before losing it. It’s so hard Sad

Too early to say. You need to check your blood for hcg at least two times with a two day difference to see whether it is growing. Good luck!
