Backache in early pregnancy

I suffered from terrible backache with my ds for the last half of the pregnancy which disappeared once he was born. Now I'm about 8 weeks pregnant and getting a lot of back pain again. Does anyone know if it's possible to get pregnancy backache at this stage because it feels exactly the same as last time only there is no real baby weight to consider?
Any advice gratefully received...

Thanks, Jellyhead!
This time, I will insist on getting help and not just gritting my teeth and ignoring it.

I had early back ache with my last pregnancy. I spoke to my midwife who informed me i was entitled to a few free pregnancy massage sessions at our local hospital - they were great and really helped the ache!

I've had back ache pretty much continuously since May when I was 12 weeeks pregnant. In retrospect I think it was heaving off a huge suitcase off the scanner roller on the way back from our hols. Haven't found that it's got any worse really as I've got bigger but it is upper back pain. The midwife has said I could see physio etc if I need to, so ask her. Hope you get yours sorted!

Thanks girls. I will ask the midwife about possible options when I see her in a few weeks time. My problem last time was carrying a boy - all out front - and being 5 ft 2
